Ones to Watch in 2012: Carishma


Could Carishma be pop's new princess? If the rest of her material is anywhere near as catchy as her debut single, "Glow In The Dark" then the answer is 'quite possibly.'  Produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, the man behind such hit songs as "The Boy Is Mine" (Brandy & Monica), "If You Had My Love" (Jennifer Lopez), and "Say My Name" (Destiny's Child), "Glow In The Dark" is an infectious pop smash that's just percolating with energy and I just can't get enough.

In the Taj Stansberry-directed video, Carishma demurely struts around a desolate beach, oozing both confidence and mystery. Eventually stumbling upon a wild beach bash, complete with sexy boys, fire breathers, and a massive bonfire, this exotic beauty shows off her sexy dance moves, and partying literally until the sun comes up.  Proving all that glitters is in fact gold, Carishma rolls and writhes sexily around in the sand, surrounded by onlooking Tiki Torches, all the while decked out in a shimmery golden, bejeweled bikini. Carishma has been performing since she was a little girl, ultimately becoming the triple-threat  (singer/actress/dancer) that she is today.  At the age of 9, Carishma starred in an HBO movie and by the age of 10, she had already won several dance competitions.  At age 14 Carishma signed with an indie label and got to work, recording dozens of tracks, none of which would ever see the light of day.  Splitting with her label after graduating high school, Carishma was accepted into NYU's Music Business and Performing Arts program.  A talent and a scholar - how refreshing! It's always nice to hear about artists who put their education first, ahead of their careers.


It was during her stint at NYU that she gained the attention of mega-hitmaker Timbaland, after auditioning for him at The Hit Factory in Miami, ultimately recording a song with him called "Keep Hangin' On."  What a dream come true for this rising young talent.  Since graduating from NYU, Carishma has been hard at work on her debut album, working with big names including Claude Kelly (Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson), J.R. Rotem (Rihanna, Leona Lewis), Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, and more.  Can't wait to hear what's next for Carishma!
