[Hot Video Alert] Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen - Good Time

Owl City Carly Rae Jepsen Good Time

After his last album failed to produce anything resembling a hit, Owl City (AKA Adam Young) continues in his quest to avoid being another ONE HIT WONDER, this time enlisting the support of relative newcomer and bonafied hitmaker, Canadian singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen, who's own single "Call Me Maybe" catapulted her into superstar status and earned her #1's all over the world.  Pretty smart if you ask me. So far, the new single entitled "Good Time" has peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Owl City the second Top 20 hit of his career.

Technically, "Good Time" is the second single released off Owl City's upcoming third studio album, The Midsummer Station (due August 21st through Universal Republic Records), serving as the follow up to a song called "Shooting Star," the title track from his Spring EP which crashed in at #49 on the Billboard 200.  While the single didn't really chart here in America (unless you count Billboard's Christian Songs Chart), over in the UK it did manage to BARELY crack the Top 200, peaking at #176 on the UK Singles Chart.

"Good Time" was produced and co-written by Young, with additional co-writing help from Matt Thiessen and Brian Lee.  With a definite SUMMER ANTHEM type feel, "Good Time" is looking like the perfect vehicle for both Owl City and Jepsen, the latter whom has yet to release a follow up to her infectious worldwide smash debut.  Jepsen is currently at work on her sophomore album (to be her U.S. debut album) which will reportedly be a mix of pop, dance-pop and "a little hint of folk-pop."  Additionally, we can expect collabs with (of course) Owl City, Fun. ("We Are Young"), Redfoo (of LMFAO) and a Toby Gad-produced Justin Bieber duet.  Sounds potentially AMAZING.

Owl City is also in desperate need of a new hit.  While his sophomore major label album, 2011's All Things Bright and Beautiful, was a modest hit in it's own right (peaking at #6 on the Billboard 200), the album's lead single, the misguided "Alligator Sky," peaked at a disappointing #105 while fourth single "Lonely Lullaby" only made it to #112.  Definitely room for improvement, and a #17 position for "Good Time" is certainly that - an improvement.  His new album, in addition to "Good Time," features another collaboration, this time with Blink 182's Mark Hoppus. Not as exciting as Jepsen's planned collaborations but at least he's not doing anything with a rapper this time, right?

Check out the JUST released video for "Good Time," featuring some strategically placed FIAT product placement and some good ole' fun by the campfire.  "Good Time" is available for download now in the U.S. (iTunes US). UK fans can download the single on September 9th, featuring remixes from Fred Falke, Wideboys and a new remix by Adam Young. (pre-order on iTunes UK)
