Fist Pumping In The Club: Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Releases a Single

I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually kind of like "The Situation." "The Situation" is the cleverly titled debut single by former exotic dancer and Jersey Shore meat-head Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and it's not as bad as it might sound. I honestly would have expected cast mate DJ Pauly D to cut a track before this guy but I'm kind of glad he did. Collaborating with heavy hitters like Fatman Scoop, DJ Class and the Disco Fries, Sorrentino's song is pretty much just beats mixed with a little bit of speaking and a little bit of rapping but that's not necessarily a bad thing. For what it is...an enjoyable club romp...it's not bad. I can see this doing well in the clubs, both stateside and abroad, especially since the show is getting an international audience now. This could be Sorrentino's smartest move since coining "GTL."

Hot Video Alert: Shakira - Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) (Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Song)

Shakira's new World Cup single, "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" isn't bad but "Hips Don't Lie," it isn't (the "Waka Waka" dance doesn't even compare!). The song is based upon a traditional African soldier's song called "Zangalewa." Written by Shakira and John Hill and features the Cape Town-based Afro-pop group Freshlyground. The song has gone #1 in several countries, including Belgium, Finland, Italy, Spain, and of course South Africa. The single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #43 and is charting on a couple of Billboard's Latin Pop charts as well. The song is available for download on iTunes as well as on Listen Up! The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Album.

Hot Video Alert: Jessie James - Boys In The Summer

Is Jessie James pop or is she country?   I've heard of country artists transitioning into pop (i.e. - Faith Hill, Leann Rimes,) and even the other way around (i.e. - Jessica Simpson, Jewel) but I don't know if I've heard of a brand new artist straddling the pop/country line so early on in their career. Usually an artist establishes his or herself in one genre of music before crossing over into another, but Jessie James has embraced both from the get go.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this. She's a talented and beautiful girl but, I swear, when I first heard her single "Wanted" I thought 'WHO is this new pop star?' Follow up single "I Look So Good (Without You)" had a strong POP BALLAD vibe (it was even co-penned by hitmaker Rodney Jerkins!) THEN with the release of her third single, "My Cowboy" she was drifting back to country.  Granted, all of her singles have had elements of country, whether it be instrumental or in her delivery so I guess it's no big surprise that her new single "Boys In The Summer" is decidedly more country than pop.

While James' debut single "Wanted" peaked at #40 on Billboard's Hot 100 (not to mention #18 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Chart), follow up single "I Look So Good (Without You)" only managed to peak at #104 (although it did hit #4 on Billboard's Bubbling Under chart).  Due out June 29th, "Boys In The Summer,"  is the first single off her as of yet untitled second album, released through Mercury Records.  The song was produced by John Fields and co-written by James herself.  The OFFICIAL single mix is a pop mix, due to impact Top 40 Radio at the end of June as well as the country mix (which has already been released).  Roman White directed the video, which is playful and summery.  James is GORGEOUS in it. Kind of like a country-singer version of Megan Fox.

Hot Video Alert: Broken Bells - The Ghost Inside (Live on Jimmy Kimmel)

I CAN'T get enough of this song! Check out this live performance of the new Broken Bells single "The Ghost Inside," performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live this past Thursday. There's just something that's so sexy to me about James Mercer's voice. It's really making me think that I need to go back and listen to The Shins (who I'm not very familiar with). If you haven't already seen the spectacularly EPIC video for "The Ghost Inside," make sure you watch that now.

Hot Video Alert: Uffie feat. Pharrell Williams - ADD SUV

UFFIE - ADD SUV (feat . Pharrell Williams) HD from Uffie on Vimeo.

Unofficially, "ADD SUV" is Uffie's third single from her much anticipated/long-delayed debut album Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans. Officially it's the album's second single, not counting "Pop The Glock" which was released in November of last year. The album was released June 14th internationally via Ed Banger Records and on will be released on June 22nd in the U.S. through Elektra Records, this Mirwais-produced, Pharrell Williams-assisted single is a fun, funky-fresh electro jam and the video mirrors that same vibe. The single first came out in France (where Uffie presently calls home) on May 17th followed by a European release at the end of May and a UK/US release on June 7th and June 8th respectively. The song, poking fun at rappers and their obsession with bigger-than-necessary gas-guzzlers, features remixes by Armand Van Helden and Hudson Mohawke. Sex Dreams and Denim Dreams features production by Feadz, Mr. Oizo, Mirwais, SebastiAn, J-Mat and features special guests including Pharrell and Matt Safer (of The Rapture).
