Justin Bieber Protege, Carly Rae Jepsen Lands UK #1 with Second Fastest Selling Single of 2012

As if the sudden rush of notoriety here in America wasn't enough for Canadian singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen, now she's become an overnight success in the UK as well. Pretty effing fantastic.  Jepsen's smash single, the uber-catchy "Call Me Maybe" not only crashed into the top ten on Billboard's Hot 100 chart but following it's release last week in the UK, the former Canadian Idol contestant has the pleasure of having the SECOND fastest selling single of 2012 to date, with nearly 107,000 sold in the first week and an impressive out of nowhere #1 debut on the UK Singles Chart.  Pretty impressive.  Jepsen comes in only second to the DJ Fresh & Rita Ora jam "Hot Right Now" which sold an impressive 128,000 in it's first week of release back in February.  Whichever way you slice it, this is no small feat and Carly Rae Jepsen has a lot to be happy about.

Ones to Watch in 2012: Ben Montague

Ben Montague

Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce you to Ben Montague.  This handsome young man is about to unleash a brand new single, "Love Like Stars" on June 18th and I have to say, after listening to the studio version I'm left completely mesmerized, wanting more.  An epic, sweeping, mid-tempo ballad, "Love Like Stars" is a cinematic, soundtrack-ready stunner, complete with a big swelling chorus, backed by a lush, beautiful orchestra.  You can get a sense of the song below by watching Mr. Montague sing it live at London's O2 Arena, but the studio version is infinitely more amazing. TRUST ME (listen HERE).  Ben Montague is definitely worthy of my 'Ones to Watch' title and I think you'll agree.

Two years ago, Ben Montague saw some success with his debut single, "Haunted," (watch the music video BELOW) after it became a radio hit in the UK.  At the time, Montague was completely unattached with no record deal or album to his name. Now it's 2012 and Montague is ready to release his new album, Tales of Flying and Falling, backed by a record label - Nusic Sounds/EMI and a beautiful lead single.

Hot Video Alert: James Durbin - Stand Up

James Durbin

Admittedly, I gravitate towards female American Idol contestants, just for the simple fact that I like a female voice more than I like a male voice.  Case in point - James Durbin.  While watching Season 10 of American Idol, I was not the biggest James Durbin fan.  My problem?  I thought Durbin was essentially a less flashy and flamboyant version of Adam Lambert.  Every performance was "shoutier" than the one before, almost to the point of being screechy.  While I had much admiration for Durbin, who was diagnosed with Tourettes and Aspergers, his style of music and on stage persona just wasn't making a connection with me.

Now that I've had over a year to calm my nerves, I have to admit, James Durbin has grown into quite the little rock star.  After watching his new(ish) video for single "Stand Up," which was released on VEVO back towards the end of January, I left a little blown away.  American Idol really is a well oiled machine.  They know how to turn an everyday "Joe" like Durbin into a star, all the while, preserving his unique essence and voice.  I'm very impressed.  While "Stand Up" might not be what I typically listen to, I recognize talent when I see it and James Durbin's oozing with talent.
