Ones to Watch in 2011: Jason Reeves

If you haven't heard of 26 year old singer/songwriter Jason Reeves yet, don't worry - you will! Reeves co-wrote 10 of the 12 tracks on Colbie Caillat's debut record, Coco, including popular singles "Bubbly," "Realize" (on which Reeves also contributes backup vocals) and "The Little Things." Signed to Warner Brothers by former American Idol judge (and current judge of Bravo's music show Platinum Hit), Kara DioGuardi, Reeves is set to release his debut album - The Lovesick - this summer, featuring collaborations with both Caillat and DioGuardi.

Back in February, Reeves released the first single off of The Lovesick, "Sticks & Stones." On the single Reeves gives off a kind of Jason Mraz-vibe which I really like. The production is slick and poppy, which is a little unexpected since his previous releases were more singer/songwriter, acoustic pop rock.  On the whole I really like what I hear and can't wait to see what's next for the talented singer/songwriter from Iowa.  Download "Sticks & Stones" on iTunes HERE and make sure you check out this special acoustic performance of the single, featuring Danelle Leverett (from The JaneDear Girls). Simply lovely.

Hot Video Alert: Baker - All I'm Gonna Say

There's only one thing I like more than electro pop, and that's a sexy male electro pop star. Baker is just that. Sexy, talented and oh so electro! Working on his debut album, the talented young artist/DJ/producer splits his time between LA and New York City, working with Music Is My King Size Bed favorites Hyper Crush as well as NYC-based producer extraordinaire Mysto & Pizzi (R.Kelly, Wynter Gordon). New single "All I'm Gonna Say" is the follow up to 2010's "Echo" (available on iTunes) and is just as catchy and synthy as it's electro-pop predecessor, both of which are destined to make you dance. Check out the video for "All I'm Gonna Say" below and the video for "Echo" HERE.

Baker's musical inspirations are as diverse as his musical talents. Baker grew up playing the cello, which led to a string of recitals and even a performance at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Vocally, it was a stint in one of Harvard University's acapella groups that allowed him to discover his own sound as an artist. After discovering his sound, it was all about Baker meeting up with the right people - which he did.
"Pop music has always resonated with me, and it was the people I met in the studio that helped me figure out why. I've been lucky so far, and feel blessed that I have met such a diverse and talented creative group of people in the industry.”
During his senior year Baker met up with DJ/Producer Kelly Cole which led him to recording an up-tempo dance cover of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box." Since then, it's been a whirlwind journey. Baker started getting buzz last year, with the release of "Echo," co-written and co-produced by Hyper Crush. Now, it's 2011 and Baker is ready to put his stamp on the electro pop music scene once again, with his heart set on creating "the catchiest, most danceable pop album ever." Sounds to me like he has the goods and the talent to go far. Can't wait to hear what's next!  Check out the video for "All I'm Gonna Say" below and download "Echo" on iTunes HERE.

Ones to Watch in 2011: Cleo Sol

The talent just keeps getting younger and younger these days, doesn't it? While it all makes me feel really old, it keeps things the music fresh. Case in point, new rising talent Cleo Sol, who's debut promo track "LoveBass" is available for free on her Facebook page. At only 20 years old, the beautiful Cleo Sol already has racked up an impressive list of collaborations including Tinie Tempah ("Tears"), DaVinChe ("Hero"), Bashy ("Riding For Love"), and most recently on the official Orange Rockcorps anthem "Give A Little Love," where Sol joined forces with Roll Deep, Aggro Santos, Bluey Robinson and Bashy. If that wasn't enough to impress you, you can also hear her vocal stylings on the soundtrack to the UK film 4,3,2,1 where she joins Wretch 32 on the track "Dancefloor."

The West London born Cleo Sol is set to make a spalsh on the UK urban scene, infusing R&B and dubstep together creating a fresh-to-death sound that's sure to garner her some much deserved solo attention. "LoveBass" was produced by DaVinChe, who's singled her out as one of the most talented artists he's ever had the pleasure of collaborating with.
"When we first began working in the studio, the musical chemistry was instant; Cleo’s ideas and energy help us to create the music we want naturally not forced. I’m excited for the world to hear Cleo Sol."
Make sure you check out Cleo Sol on Facebook and download your free copy of "LoveBass." You won't be sorry! Check out the song below and fall in love with this fresh new UK talent.

Hot Video Alert: Jessie J - Nobody's Perfect

UK phenom Jessie J has announced plans to release "Nobody's Perfect" as her official third single in the UK on May 23rd and I think it's a good choice. The song has a big chorus which really showcases Jessie J's vocal talent in it's best light. Previous singles "Do It Like A Dude" and "Price Tag" both featured little bursts of impressive vocals but on "Nobody's Perfect," we get a whole song full! Sure, Jessie still lets out the occasional growl, "Y-EAH!" or riff but "Nobody's Perfect" should prove to all the haters that she has legitimate talent. Frankly, I'm surprised that she has so many haters. Sure, her label (Lava/Universal Republic in the U.S. and Universal/Island in the UK) has been throwing a lot of resources at Jessie J, trying to make her a star but the truth of the matter is - she is a star. She has the look. She has the talent. It's a shame that all artists don't get the full backing of their labels but in Jessie J's case, I'm just saying that it's deserved. The girl has undeniable talent.

In typical Jessie J fashion, the Emil Nava-directed video, which premiered on April 14th, is a lot of fun. The video has a whole Alice In Wonderland vs. The Shining vibe going on, complete with a cast of colorful characters, brightly colored costumes, makeup and Jessie J looking simply fabulous throughout. I love it!

Jessie J's debut album Who You Are just came out here in America and seems to be off to a good start. The album is currently in the Top Ten on the iTunes album charts. Who You Are, which came out in the UK at the end of February, made it all the way to #2 on the UK Albums Chart. Her singles have also been performing well in the UK with first single "Do It Like A Dude" peaking at #2 on the UK Singles Chart and "Price Tag" going all the way to the top. Over here in America "Price Tag" was a Top 40 hit, peaking at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100. I guess we'll have to see how Who You Are does on the Billboard charts this week. I'm hoping for a strong debut. Considering how hard her U.S. label has been pushing her, it could happen! Appearances on Saturday Night Live and Jay Leno could only help things along here in the States. Do your part by downloading Who You Are on iTunes HERE. In the meantime, make sure you check out this new remix for "Nobody's Perfect" by Netsky and remember that the single will be released in the UK on May 23rd.
