Tori Amos Experiments with 'Classical' on New Album Due in September

Tori Amos has always been in my periphery, but never REALLY in my line of site.  The last ALBUM I bought by Amos was 2001's Strange Little Girl and probably the last single I bought of Amos' was "Welcome To England" off of her 2009 album, Abnormally Attracted To Sin.  I have nothing against Amos, she's always been a bit out there to me. Something about her music either really connects with me or really leaves me disinterested.

I bought Strange Little Girls because of the hype.  It was pegged as a "concept album" and featured a reinterpretation of an Eminem song.  I bought the album without having heard any of the songs and barely listened to it more than once or twice.  I guess that was my mistake.  What I really need to do is listen to Amos' back catalog.  Albums like her debut Little Earthquakes, Boys for Pele and From The Choirgirl Hotel.  I also happened to love "A Sorta Fairytale" from Amos' 2002 album Scarlet's Walk.  Her newer stuff - not really into.  I don't know how die hard Tori Amos fans feel about her entire discography to date but I'm still really waiting to CONNECT with some of her newer material.  Hasn't happened yet, but Amos isn't retiring any time soon so there's still a chance.

This Fall Tori Amos will release her 12th studio album, Night of Hunters, via Deutsche Grammophon, "the world's most celebrated classical music record label." The forthcoming album (which Amos wrote AND produced) is "inspired by select classical pieces spanning the last 400 years." Kinda vague, no? Well the press release goes into a bit more detail:

Hot Video Alert: Loli Lux - Wannabe

New York-based DJ & Electro pop artist Loli Lux is someone you should know. Actually, she's probably already somebody you have heard. Lady Gaga's new RedOne-produced single, "Judas" uses the very same hook heard on Lux's single "WannaBE 2011" and it doesn't sound like it's a coincidence. Lux apparently contacted producer RedOne through an acquaintance and sent him her track. {SOURCE} Hmm...

While "Judas" is certainly growing on me, "WannaBE" is infinitely more catchy in my opinion.  Love Gaga but there's something infectious about Loli Lux.  She oozes with a kind of Bille Piper-as-a-pop-star sexuality that I haven't really seen since...well, Billie Piper was a pop star.  While Lux may be channeling Billie Piper physically, the track itself is a far cry from the 90s/2000s pop that marked Piper's career.  "WannaBE 2011" is total SPACE DISCO.  Written and produced by Lux and Rob Uncles in 2009, the song was released and remixed in September of last year by LoliLand Inc, with the uber-sexy video receiving heavy promotion on MTV and all over the charts in the Ukraine.  With the single out in other parts of the world, Loli Lux is ready to unleash it in the UK.

Lux's iTunes podcast has reached nearly 5,000 downloads of mixes per day and her website gets between 9,000 and 20,000 daily visitors, which is pretty impressive considering that she's relatively unknown.  Sure, she has a following as she's performed all over the U.S. and the world at such clubs as Avalon, Ruby Skye (San Francisco), Love Parade, Lizzard Lounge (Dallas), Sound Bar (Chicago) and PURE (Las Vegas).  Lux has also graced magazine covers and billboards worldwide, even appearing in an AXE Body Spray commercial and as an extra in an episode of HBO's hit series Entourage.  Not only is Loli Lux a multi-talented artist, but she's also a successful entrepreneur.  LoliLand Inc. is a record label, a clothing line and much more! In the past LoliLand Inc. has released music from up & comers including AC Slater, Trash Yourself, Nick Supply and more.  While Loli Lux appears to have several back up career plans in place, I think it's safe to say that she'll be a fierce and fabulous club queen for a long time to come.  "WannaBe 2011" is only the beginning!  Check out the uber-fierce "WannaBE 2011" video below and download the EP on U.S. iTunes HERE and on UK iTunes HERE.
