Ones to Watch in 2011: Laura Warshauer

Laura Warshauer is a singer/songwriter that you all need to know about. The New Jersey native released her LP, The Pink Chariot Mixtape June 14th, featuring production by Thom Panunzio (Bruce Springsteen, Nelly Furtado) and newcomers Ned Cameron, Andy Baldwin, Peter Hong, Jason Miller, Rob Whited, Robert Lee Parker and Matt Breunig. The nine track album showcases Warshauer's versatility as a "genre-crossing" artist, with her music dipping into the realms of both pop and rock. Her new single, "Wishing Well," will be shipped to radio outlets starting today, July 1st.  Laura uploaded a live performance of the new single on YouTube June 25th, so check it out HERE.

When listening to Laura Warshauer sing, you might notice bits of Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush...even Imogen Heap, but rest assured, she's not a copy cat by any means. Warshauer is a complete original, through and through. While many artists almost exclusively take an introspective approach to songwriting, Warshauer looks to current events to keep her music both relatable and captivating. Her latest current events-inspired track, "To Will and Kate, Meet Me at Exit 109" is a beautiful, heartfelt ode to Prince William and Kate Middleton, who's wedding ceremony captured worldwide attention a couple of months ago. Inspired by Warshauer's experiences with the royal couple during her time as a freshman at the University of St. Andrews, the track was a viral success, amassing over 88,000 views on YouTube since it's May 1st release. The song was also featured in People Magazine, The Gothamist, the Daily Mail, Paris Match, AOL Music as well as a live performance on New York/New Jersey's News 12.

Back in 2010, Laura Warshauer was selected by BMI, Songmasters and Songwriter's Hall of Fame as the 2010 recipient for the first ever Buddy Holly Award, acknowledging young singer/songwriters for being "true, great and original." No stranger to live gigs, Warshauer recently performed at this years SXSW where she was part of the Billboard Showcase at Buffalo Billiards and at BMI's Express Rocks! Music Lounge. Look out for more tour dates this summer, as she prepares to start promoting her album and single all over the U.S. In the meantime, you can catch Laura and her band at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, CA on July 14th, Lestat's in San Diego on July 20th and at the FMQB Triple A conference in Boulder, CA on August 10th.

Download The Pink Chariot Mixtape on U.S. iTunes HERE and pick up "To Will and Kate, Meet Me At Exit 109" on iTunes HERE. Laura Warshauer is truly an up and coming talent worthy of my 'Ones To Watch in 2011' title.

Hot Video Alert: LMFAO feat. Natalia Kills - Champagne Showers

I feel like I haven't really given LMFAO a proper chance and I don't have an answer as to why. Redfoo and SkyBlu (AKA Stefan Kendal Gordy and Skyler Husten Gordy) first appeared on the charts with their debut single "I'm In Miami Bitch" was a top ten hit over in the UK but here in America it peaked just outside of the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band really didn't have a proper "breakthrough" until 2010 when their David Guetta collaboration, "Gettin' Over You" peaked top ten in eleven countries including three #1's! IMPRESSIVE and kind of out of nowhere. I don't know if the material from their first album wasn't strong enough, or maybe it was just too Euro for America. Regardless - the boys are back in a big way and I'm into it big time.

"Party Rock Anthem" was really the song that converted me into an LMFAO fan. I don't know if it was the FABULOUS Lauren Bennett (formerly of the Paradiso Girls) or just the catchy nature of the song itself, but it absolutely has me shuffling every time it comes on my playlist now. The song gave LMFAO their first top 5 hit here in the U.S., where it peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, not to mention #5 on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart, #9 on the US Pop Songs chart and #10 on the US Rap Songs chart. IMMENSE! The song also went #1 in ten countries including the UK, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, France and more! That's what I call a hit song!

Their sophomore album, Sorry For Party Rocking was just released on June 21st and features "Party Rock Anthem" as well as the band's new Natalia Kills-assisted new single, "Champagne Showers." While not nearly as catchy as "Party Rock Anthem," the beat is infectious and that's a big part in any successful dance single. I was hoping Natalia Kills would be featured more prominently, at least in terms of vocals. While she does sing in the chorus, her voice is heavily masked by vocal effects, made even more difficult to understand by her high falsetto.

The fantastic videos for both "Party Rock Anthem" and "Champagne Showers" follow one another, taking cues from popular horror movies. In the "Party Rock Anthem" video," 28 Days Later is spoofed, except instead of waking up to a world filled with zombies, RedFoo and SkyBlu are surprised to find out that world has been taken over by "shufflers," who have all been "infected" by the release of "Party Rock Anthem." The song is just SO infectious that it makes people want to shuffle. The "Champagne Showers" video spoofs the vampire flick From Dusk Till Dawn, taking the boys of LMFAO to an underground vampire club, overseen by the queen of darkness herself Natalia Kills. The boys defeat the sexy vampire hoards with showers of holy champagne (AKA Champagne Showers). These boys certainly get an A++ in the creativity department. Can't wait to see what the next video is like!

"Champagne Showers" was released in Europe on May 27th and has so far, failed to live up to it's predecessor at least in terms of chart performance. On the ARIA Singles Chart, the track peaked at #26, in Ireland #20, in Scotland #32 and in the UK #46. On the dance charts, the song has been doing notably better, peaking at #9 on the ARIA Dance Chart and at #13 on the UK Dance Chart. Watch both videos in order below and if you haven't picked up the singles yet, do so now! "Party Rock Anthem" is available on U.S. iTunes HERE and "Champagne Showers" is available on UK iTunes HERE. Both songs appear on the album, Sorry For Party Rocking, out now worldwide on will.iam/Cherrytree/Interscope Records.
