Hot Video (Teaser) Alert: Lady Gaga - Alejandro

Get excited Little Monsters! The new Lady Gaga video for "Alejandro" is coming! Gaga has been kind enough to release little teasers throughout the next day or so, prepping us all for the release of the full length Steven Klein-directed video sometime next week. SO far so good. The video looks EPIC.

The RedOne-produced "Alejandro" is the third single off of Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster, succeeding the Beyoncé-assisted "Telephone."  The song has also been doing well on the charts, hitting #2 in Australia, Top 5 in Belgium, Canada and France and Top 10 in the Netherlands, Sweden, and in the U.S., where it's currently sitting pretty at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.  The song is also climbing the Billboard Dance/Club Play Charts, likely with help from the impressive array of remixers putting their spin on this unique pop song - including Afrojack, Rusko, Dave Audé, Skrillex, Kim Fai, Sound of Arrows, Bimbo Jones and Kleerup. HOT remix package! The track was never one of my favorites but it's definitely growing on me.

Hot Video Alert: Girlicious - Maniac

I'm a little behind with this one, but Reality TV girl group Girlicious have a new single out in Canada called "Maniac" and while it's NOT BAD, I'm not 100% sure why the Robin Antin-formed group did a complete 180, doing a dance/pop record rather than continuing on the R&B/Pop-route.  The girls' self-titled debut album peaked at #2 on the Canadian Albums Chart, yet it remains unreleased (physically) here in the States, despite landing the #2 spot on Billboard's "Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles."  For one reason or another, the girls became popular in Canada and focused all of their promotional efforts up North.

After the ousting of member Tiffanie Anderson, the group seems to be forging onward as a threesome.  No longer signed to Geffen, the group signed a new deal with Universal Music Canada. I'm still optimistic that they'll do something here in America...but with first single "Over You" getting only as high as #52 and "Maniac" peaking at #74...it's not looking good for Girlicious.  Hey...at least they reached #32 on the Serbian charts!  I still maintain that "Maniac" is fun for what it is...a Pussycat Doll-like dance/pop radio romp.

Hot Video Alert: JLS - The Club Is Alive

"The club is alive with the sound of music." Interesting incorporation of the famous "hills are alive..." bit from The Sound of Music. This bit of lyrical "genius" comes to us courtesy of X-Factor's resident R&B/pop supergroup, JLS who recorded/are recording second LP here in the States. First single, "The Club Is Alive" is due out July 4th in the UK and features remixes by UK remix outfit Wideboys.

Interesting that JLS is now going in a decidedly electro-pop direction...or is it expected? I do like that they infuse R&B/Hip-hop elements throughout the song in an effort to keep it more their style of music. I am NOT a fan of the chorus though...especially that Sound of Music sampling. While JLS aren't the first to poppify/urbanize show tunes (see Gwen Stefani's "Wind It Up" and "Rich Girl") this borrowed lyric just rubs me slightly the wrong way. What do you think of the boys' new single?

Sky Ferreira Is The 'One' To Watch

Remixers are gonna LOVE this shit. Thanks over to MuuMuse for the heads up (although I did Re-Tweet a Tweet from Sky Ferreira herself about the single. The Bloodshy & Avant-produced "One" is the official first single off the 17 Year-Old's debut album due out later this year by Parlophone in the UK and Capitol here in the U.S.

Earlier this year Ferreira released "17" with an accompanying music video. That song, while more of a promotional, hype-generating device, also proved that Ferreira can actually sing. Now that THAT pesky little detail is out of the way, it's on to something a bit more fun! MuuMuse was dead-on when he described the song as...a cross between Marina & The Diamonds, Little Boots & Diana Vickers. He also got it right by calling it a "more musically interesting response to Ke$ha, but without all of the distracting faux-drunk revelry." Faux-drunk revelry. What a little wordsmith Bradley is! LOVE IT!

I really like how MuuMuse puts it...["One"] sounds a bit like if Marina & The Diamonds‘ “I Am Not A Robot” went out for a few drinks with Little Boots'‘ “Stuck On Repeat,” except the date took place in an underwater bar and Bloodshy & Avant were busy conducting a small symphony in their scuba gear nearby while Diana Vickers‘ “Once” was busy making sexy eyes at them from the corner of the bar." Pure candy-disco-electro-pop-confection-perfection if you ask me!

'Music Is My King Size Bed' Gets Some Radio 1 'Chart Blog' Love

Lookie Lookie! I got some blog love from none other than Radio 1's Chart Blog! BIG DEAL! Sure, it's only a six-word quote at the bottom of the page but I'll take what I can get! The quote appears at the bottom of a review of Pixie Lott's new single by Fraser McAlpine. I'm pleased to be the third and final quote and the most positive of the three.

In the review, McAlpine makes some good points, talking about how 5-singles in, the label might be milking this one dry, instead of focusing on creating new material. McAlpine calls "Turn It Up" a "perfectly good album track," but not so much single-worthy - in essence - the album's pool of potential singles has dried up. I totally see where he's coming from...especially when you look at it from a "chart-statistician's" point of view. The first two singles hit #1..."Cry Me Out" peaked at #12..."Gravity" only made it #20. That's a pretty obvious downward trend. I think his point is a good one...quit while you're ahead. Releasing "Turn It Up," "as a fifth single from an already-successful breakthrough album, it's pointless, and worse, might even allow chart-statisticians such as myself the chance to put together a compelling argument that she's failing, when she could be off recording some new, different, amazing songs and preparing to kill us all with brilliance." OK. Agreed. Well said sir.

That being said, what about her planned U.S. promotion? I think it's safe to say that she's going to to release a couple old singles Stateside (maybe her 2 UK #1s?)...as well as some new, more commercially viable (i.e. radio-friendly) material (with the assistance of Jason Derulo and Joe Jonas). I'm really interested to see how she does here. Part of me really thinks she has a chance...while the other part of me is nervous about failure. Hey! I'm pretty sure she has the same thoughts going through her mind. At least she has a solid standing in the UK to fall back on. I still maintain that Lott is "fresh faced and super talented" and for one will be supporting her when she sets foot on this side of the pond.

Hot Video Alert: The Wanted - All Time Low

The Wanted are a UK boy band that I first read about on Popjustice. Apparently they've been teasing fans with clips from their music video for first single "All Time Low," but the wait is over. Signed to Geffen Records, The Wanted consists of 17 year old Nathan Sykes of Gloucester, 21 year old Max George of Manchester, 19 year old Jay McGuiness of Nottingham, 21 year old Tom Parker of Bolton, and 21 year old Siva Kaneswaran from Ireland. The boys are all good looking and seem to be decent singers (evidenced by the fact that they all have a part to sing). The song itself is decent...not your typical ballad with sort of an electro-pop thing going on a little over a minute in. I'd want to hear what the rest of the album sounds like before I make a final assessment but their first single has certainly peaked my interest.

Hot Video Alert: Sacha Sacket - Running Away

Sacha Sacket is one artist that I need follow more regularly. Not only is he cute as hell but he's SUPER talented. Check out his newest video for his song "Running Away." It's a beautiful video for a beautiful song. Can't wait to hear more from this talented singer/songwriter. His most recent album Hermitage is available now. Get it on iTunes HERE.

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - All The Lovers

It's hear and it's gayer than ever! Yes, I'm talking about the new Kylie Minogue video for her single "All The Lovers," off her forthcoming album Aphrodite, due out July 6th in the U.S. The video is set to premiere today online all over the world. My first impression...well...love of course. It's a cool video. Lots of writhing, half naked bodies...kind of a reminiscent of the video for "Slow" (one of my all time favorite Kylie singles). This time though there's a MOUNTAIN of half naked people...rather than a pool deck full. The video is a bit cheesy in parts but then again, what did you expect from a Kylie song? It's fun and fancy free. The single is due out June 15th and was written by Kish Mauve and produced by the fabulous Stuart Price. Remixes come to us from WAWA, Michael Woods, Dada Life and XXXchange. Download the digital remix EP featuring all of the mixes (except Dada Life) HERE.
