Earlier today, everybody's favorite Aussie electro-pop queen Kylie Minogue left us, her loyal fans with a very special treat AND ON HER OWN BIRTHDAY no less.  Shortly after sharing a photo of herself with the caption, "Might be my birthday but I'm still working #studio," Queen Kylie Retweeted a Soundcloud link from DJ/Remixer/Producer Chris Lake.  Where did said link take us, you might ask? Oh just to an AMAZING new song called "Skirt." That's all!  The song, which Chris Lake debuted at opening weekend of Pacha Ibiza this past weekend was produced by Nom De Strip (AKA Chris Elliot) and co-written by The-Dream.  Listen to it BELOW THE CUT:

[Hot Video Alert] Kylie Minogue - Timebomb

Kylie Minogue Timebomb

Kylie Minogue, everybody's favorite Aussie electropop queen, dropped a bangin' new single and video today, May 25th, the latest and greatest of a series of surprises celebrating K25 (a year long celebration of Kylie's 25 years in music).  Sounding like a mix between Kylie's Fever and X eras, "Timebomb" is a bonafide SMASH-to-be, incorporating Kylie's trademark synthpop with elements of house and nu-disco, not to mention a healthy smattering of fist-pump inducing "WOOPs."  A quintessential sexy summer dance single, "Timebomb" is practically SALIVATING for a bevvy of seductively SICK remixes from today's hottest DJ talent. Bring it on!

[Album Review] Paloma Faith - Fall To Grace

Paloma Faith Fall To Grace

"Excited" doesn't even BEGIN to describe my feelings surrounding Paloma Faith's new album, Fall To Grace, out May 28th via RCA Records.  Ever since hearing her retro-steeped debut single, "Stone Cold Sober," I've been obsessing over this mega-talented 26 year old from London, wondering why the rest of the world wasn't equally as obsessed.  By the time her second single came out, I was hell bent on spreading the Paloma Faith gospel as far as my little music blog could take it.  Now, with a brilliant new album out in a couple of weeks, it's time for me to work my "magic" once again.

[Hot Video Alert] Giulietta - VooDoo

Giulietta Voodoo

You might remember my piece on Australian dance/pop singer/songwriter Giulietta from earlier this month when I made her one of my 'Ones to Watch in 2012.' Well, looks like I was right about that. Giulietta just released a scorchingly hot video for her new single, "VooDoo," and it's definitely worth watching.  Produced by Simmy Beats, "VooDoo" is the second single lifted from Giulietta's as-yet-unreleased sophomore album, 911: Code Pink. The song offers dance music lovers a taste of what's to come on the new album, which Giulietta promises to be "edgier" than the material found on her 2010 debut, Ascension

Scissor Sisters Drop New Calvin Harris-Produced Single, Video Premiere Set for Thursday April 19th

Scissor Sisters Only The Horses

Like Gossip, Scissor Sisters are another one of those American bands that are criminally underrated here at home but hugely popular abroad.  The drastically different radio landscapes here and in Europe frustrate the hell out of me sometimes, but what are you gonna do?  On May 14th, Scissor Sisters will release "Only The Horses" as the lead single off their upcoming fourth studio album, entitled Magic Hour (check out the album artwork HERE).

Written by Scissor Sisters and co-produced by Calvin Harris and Alex Ridha of Boyz Noize, "Only The Horses" presents as a welcomed return for the band, who's last album, Night Work came out two years ago sans any real, honest-to-goodness hits.  While the album itself did moderately well, debuting on the UK Albums Chart at #2 and in America on the Billboard 200 at #18, it failed to produce a real hit single.  The closest we got to a hit was with lead single, "Fire With Fire," which peaked in the UK at #11.  As nice as it will be to have the Scissor Sisters back on radio (hopefully), I have to admit I have yet to be completely bowled over by any of their new material.  "Only The Horses" is a welcomed return, yes, but only in so much that it's nice to hear from the group again. The single is fairly generic dance pop, sounding much like a leftover cut off of Kylie Minogue's 2010's stunner of an album, Aphrodite.  While vastly superior to the the band's originally planned first single, the Azealia Banks-assisted "Shady Love," I was kind of hoping for and expecting more.

Hot Video Alert: Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull - Dance Again

Jennifer Lopez Dance Again

Clearly still riding high off of the success of their last collaboration, "On The Floor," Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and mega hitmaker RedOne are back together on Lopez' next smash dance/pop single, "Dance Again."  Released April 2nd through Lopez's label Epic Records, "Dance Again" was co-penned by RedOne, AJ Junior, The Chef, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull.  The song debuted on Billboard's Pop Songs chart at #34, followed by a #27 debut on the Hot 100 shortly after the release of the music video on American Idol. Not bad JLo. Not bad.

Kylie Minogue Celebrates North American Tour with New Live EP

EEEEEEEEE! How excited am I? It's the eve before I see her royal Goddess, Ms. Kylie Minogue LIVE for the second time. Back during her 2009 U.S. tour, I flew home to Chicago to see her and tomorrow night, she's making an appearence in Boston, so I don't even have to travel. AMAZING! When I bought tickets to see Kylie's last tour, I knew she was going to be amazing but I had NO IDEA just how amazing. She is the consummate performer. She is a joy to watch, a joy to listen to and what's more, the girl can actually sing live - while dancing! The show was such a spectacle, I'm finding it hard to imagine just how she's going to top herself this time.

Kylie kicked off her North American tour on Thursday in Montreal and heads to Boston tonight for her first U.S. gig this year. The Aphrodite - Love 2011 World Tour will be Kylie's most extensive U.S. tour to date, seeing the pop pixie playing 16 shows including a 3-night stint at the prestigious Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, not to mention a return to the Hollywood Bowl in LA. Kylie will close her epic tour in an epic way, playing at Colosseum at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. After the North American tour is over, Kylie will bid America adieu and head home to Australia and to South Africa to continue on with the international tour.  I'm so excited, I can hardly contain myself!

To help celebrate this momentous tour, Kylie's U.S. label, Astralwerks Records will release a new digital EP - North American Tour Bonus Edition - on May 3rd, featuring five live recordings. Three of those recordings were taken from Kylie's semi-acoustic BBC Live Lounge session, where Kylie sang "Can't Get You Out Of My Head," "All The Lovers" and "Get Outta My Way." The other two tracks - "Better Than Today" and "Confide In Me" - were recorded in New York City back in October 2009 during Kylie's last U.S. tour. The EP will also feature a short film featuring behind the scenes footage of Kylie on tour as well as original tour wardrobe sketches by Dolce & Gabbana.

As if this live EP wasn't enough to salivate over, Kylie will be releasing a new remix EP for the Starsmith/Stuart Price-produced, "Put Your Hands Up" on May 31st, featuring remixes from Pete Hammond, among others yet to be announced. Check out the remix below,  which Kylie released as a show of appreciation to all of her European fans who came to see her on tour.

Aphrodite came out in America in July of last year and proceded to go all the way to #19 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming her highest charting album in the U.S.  Additionally, the album has scored three consecutive #1 songs on the Billboard Club Chart with “All The Lovers,” “Get Outta My Way” and “Better Than Today.” According to her press release, Kylie became "the first artist in the nearly 35-year history of the chart to claim two out of the top three songs on the chart when “Better Than Today” held the top spot and Taio Cruz’s “Higher” featuring Travie McCoy and Kylie ranked #3." Brilliant.  The latest single lifted from Aphrodite,  “Better Than Today” is Kylie’s 6th career #1 on the chart. I am beyond excited to see Kylie doing so well here in America AND beyond excited to see her live for the second time.  Here's hoping she makes it back for a third.  Check out a list of her tour dates below and make sure you grab tickets if you haven't already!  Download all things "Kylie" on iTunes HERE.

Getting Pumped for the Aphrodite Live 2011 Tour

Kylie Minogue may not be coming to the States for a couple more months but that doesn't mean U.S. fans shouldn't start getting excited now. Check out this little montage of footage taken from Kylie's opening performance in Denmark. Everything looks absolutely exquisite, from the Dolce & Gabbana-designed costumes and the production to the dancers and even Kylie herself. Knowing how to make an entrance, Kylie reportedly ascends onto the stage in a giant golden clam shell (Aphrodite reference #1), entrancing the crowd throughout. As if a giant golden clam shell wasn't enough, fans have been dazzled by a brilliant water display (including giant water fountains and a pool party), flying angels, and even a chariot. FLAWLESS. While the U.S. production likely won't be exactly the same as the elaborate European production, count on something special regardless. Check out the set list from the European Les Folies Tour:

Set List:

The Carnival of the Animals (Overture)
Aphrodite
The One
Wow
Illusion
I Believe in You
Cupid Boy
Spinning Around
Get Outta My Way
What Do I Have to Do?
Everything Is Beautiful
Slow
Confide in Me
Can't Get You Out of My Head
In My Arms
Looking for an Angel
Closer
There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)
Love at First Sight (Contains excerpts from "Can't Beat the Feeling")
If You Don't Love Me
Better the Devil You Know
Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)

Encore:

On a Night Like This (Contains elements of "Heaven")
All the Lovers

AMAZING! Let's hope this doesn't change a bit when she comes over and begins her Aphrodite Live 2011 Tour in North America. Check out the video montage below and get a sense of what the experience will be like when Kylie lands in North America. Check out a full list of Tour Dates HERE and get your tickets if you haven't already. I'll be at the Boston show so I hope to see you there!

Kylie Minogue Adds DJ/Remixer Kaskade to Hollywood Bowl Show

Kylie Minogue + Kaskade? YES PLEASE! Kylie Minogue announced this week that DJ/producer/remixer extraordinaire KASKADE will be joining her as a 'special guest' during Minogue's May 20th Hollywood Bowl appearance on her North American Aphrodite - Live 2011 World Tour. While KASKADE is only joining Minogue on this one date, I'm eagerly awaiting word on who'll be opening for her on the rest of the tour, if anybody at all. When I saw Kylie in Chicago a couple of years back, there was NO opener. None. Zero. I'd LOVE to see Kaskade spin though. We'll have to see!

While many artists in his genre have struggled to find their niche in the mainstream, Kaskade really has EXPLODED onto the scene. Kaskade's sixth studio album, Dynasty climbed all the way to #5 on the iTunes Charts - that's for ALL GENRES. Not just dance. Impressive feat! Dynasty comes hot off the heals of Kaskade's popular fifth album, Strobelight Seduction, which garnered four international hit singles and the Top Spot on the iTunes Dance Chart. Considering what a mega star Kylie Minogue is, especially in the club scene, it makes sense that she'd want an internationally renowned DJ joining her.

Kylie Minogue's North American tour begins April 28th in Montreal and closes May 22nd at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.  Check out a full list of the tour dates HERE. I will be in attendance at Kylie's April 29th Boston show and can HARDLY WAIT! Check out the video for "Get Outta My Way," Kylie's latest #1 hit on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, produced by Cutfather, Peter Wallevik, Daniel Davidsen, Damon Sharpe, Lucas Secon and Stuart Price.

First things first...check out the stunning new promo photo of the Ultra Girls. Don't they look lovely? The photo was styled by Kenny Ho who has worked with girl group royalty The Spice Girls and Girls Aloud (not to mention Lisa Scott-Lee and Rachel Stevens, according to MuuMuse). BRILLIANT!

Now on to business. I LOVE when good things happen to good pop stars. So when I learned that the Ultra Girls have the unbelievable honor of opening up for Kylie Minogue on the UK leg of her international tour - I was OVER THE MOON for them. What a big deal! The UK leg of the tour kicks off March 22nd in Dublin and concludes April 12th at London's O2 Arena. The girls will be joining Kylie on ALL of her UK arena tour dates. Good for them! Check out a complete list of Kylie's international dates HERE and take a gander at her recently announced North American tour dates HERE.

As if THIS wasn't enough good news, I have more. The Ultra Girls have released a new FREE DOWNLOAD. Kylie Minogue Announces North American Tour Dates

Get excited America! Kylie Minogue has FINALLY announced the dates for the North American leg of her 2011 international tour. I flew home to Chicago to Kylie in October of 2009 and it might have been the most fun I've ever had at an arena concert. Not only did Kylie sound LOVELY live but she fed off the energy of the crowd. It was ELECTRIC.

NOW, she's coming back and I have decided...I NEED to be there. NEED. NEEEEED! The tour kicks off on April 28th in Montreal and ends May 22nd in Vegas. It's not a long tour but it's looking like it's going to be an AMAZING tour, according to the Facebook page for the tour:
FACT 18: 40,000 litres of water will be used during the show.
FACT 19: 30 water fountains will be incorporated within the stage.
FACT 20: The stage is heart-shaped.
FACT 21: The stage will include rain curtains.
FACT 22: The water will be heated up before every show.
FACT 23: During the 'Les Folies' tour, Kylie's band will have 5 members plus 2 background singers.
FACT 24: Kylie will be joined on stage by 10 dancers and 8 air acrobats!

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Santa Baby

Merry Christmas one and all. Just wanted to share this super cheesy Christmas video from my favorite Aussie Pop Queen Kylie Minogue. Channeling Marilyn Monroe in her rendition of "Santa Baby," Kylie is all dolled up, playfully flirting with the camera while sitting in front of a Christmas tree. Kylie looks like a total pin up girl her straight out of the 1950s: bright red lips, curls...she really looks the part. While the budget of this video clearly couldn't have been higher than $100.00 it's fun and festive. Perfect for Christmas. Pick up Kylie's 2-track Christmas EP, A Kylie Christmas, is on iTunes now (HERE). The EP features "Santa Baby" and "Let It Snow." Listen to her version of "Let It Snow" HERE.

Until next time...Happy Holidays from Music Is My King Size Bed!

Hot Video Alert: Taio Cruz feat. Kylie Minogue & Travie McCoy - Higher

I hate when record labels do this, release two versions of the same song for different geographic regions, as they are doing now with the new Taio Cruz single, "Higher." I understand WHY they do it I just hate that they have to do it.  Kylie Minogue is an international singing sensation yet CLEARLY not a big enough draw here in America to be included in the U.S. release of Cruz' 5th single off of Rokstarr.  For the single's North American release we have Travie McCoy, of Gym Class Heroes fame, doing a guest rap.  All bitterness aside, I kind of like Travie's contribution. I'm BEYOND thrilled that he and Kylie are not doing the same bit, rather, Travie does a guest rap and Kylie actually sings with Taio in the song.  The videos are virtually identical - so much so that in a couple of scenes it looks as if Kylie was just digitally removed.  The videos both feature Taio driving around in a car (or being driven around) and standing around in some huge, cavernous underground parking garage.  In Kylie's version of the video, Minogue is writhes sexily in the backseat of another car and on the hood of a parked car, where in Travie's version there is no writhing or dancing. He just does his thing in the back of a car or standing in front of a car with Cruz, looking "gangsta." It's a slick video (directed by Alex Herron) no matter how you cut it and who you put it in it.  I'd love to see a version of the video with both McCoy AND Minogue. That would be hot.

Take a look at the two versions of video below and let me know which one you prefer.  I'm leaning more towards Kylie but Travie's version is growing on me. Oh and if anyone has the Flemish version of the single with Dutch/Flemish girl group K3, I'd love to hear what that sounds like too! U.S. fans can download "Higher" featuring Travie McCoy now on iTunes (HERE) and pick up a copy of Taio Cruz's album on iTunes HERE.  "Higher" featuring Kylie Minogue is out February 7th in the UK.

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Better Than Today

Is "Better Than Today" my favorite song off of Kylie's Aphrodite album? No. Does that mean I don't enjoy the music video? Of course not! What's not to like? The video's got bright disco lights, pink boas, sparkly stilettos and a little Rocky Horror homage going on. The clip Kylie Minogue/William Baker co-directed clip made it's YouTube/VEVO debut on November 19th. The single, the third off of Aphrodite, will be released in the UK on December 6th and features official remixes from Bills & Hurr, The Japanese Popstars, and Monarchy. The single was written and produced by Nerina Pallot, Andy Chatterly and Stuart Price.

Sidenote: in advance of her featured performance on next week's Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at New York's Rockefeller Plaza, Minogue made a special appearance at this morning's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, singing single #2, "Get Out Of My Way." Catch a clip of the performance HERE. Minogue will be performing her new holiday single, "Let It Snow" at the famous Rockefeller Plaza on November 30th, the day after she premieres it on Perez Hilton. The single will be digitally released on December 7th. It's always such a treat to see Kylie on American TV. Looking forward to the announcement about her planned U.S. tour.  Now...go enjoy the "Better Than Today" video!

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way (Live on 'The Tonight Show')

Celebrating her second consecutive #1 Billboard Club hit off of Aphrodite, "Get Outta My Way" Kylie Minogue DAZZLED American television audiences twice last week. First, with an appearance on Dancing With The Stars and finally on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. See! THIS is why I love Kylie Minogue. Unlike a lot of dance pop artists out there, the pint size pop princess can really sing. This really became clear to me after seeing her live last year in Chicago on her first ever North American tour. While her DWTS performance was more in line with what we've seen before on some of her European TV appearances, on The Tonight Show, Ms. Minogue showed us a different side. Minogue performed her new single backed by Ricky Minor and his band. Vocally-speaking, I think Minogue sounded a bit stronger on DWTS but she does alright on Leno, having a ball the whole entire time. When Kylie's having fun, you can see it on her face. Her joy just bubbles over. As if two TV appearances weren't enough. Minogue will also grace us with her presence on the November 7th episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. "Get Outta My Way" impacts mainstream radio on November 1st.

On the tour front, Kylie will launch her "Aphrodite - Les Folies 2011" world tour in Denmark on February 19th. I'm eagerly awaiting news on Kylie's US tour dates, which should be next Spring. Please come to Boston this time Kylie. Love Jamie.

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way

"Get Outta My Way" is the TREMENDOUS new single by the reigning QUEEN of electro-pop, Ms. Kylie Minogue.  Due out in the UK on September 27th, the single is backed by a bangin' remix package including mixes by Paul Harris, Kris Menace, Sidney Samson, 7th Heaven, Bimbo Jones, Stuart Price and more!  The song was written by Lucas Secon, Damon Sharpe, Peter Wallevik, Daniel Davidsen and Mich Hansen and produced by Cutfather, Wallevik, Davidsen, Sharpe, Secon, and Stuart Price.  The second single to be lifted from the pint-size pop star's eleventh studio album Aphrodite, "Get Outta My Way" is currently climbing the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart where it sits at #14.  The video (which premiered while I was away) was directed by UK outfit AlexandLiane and features a STUNNINGLY beautiful Kylie Minogue laying on a gigantic Light Bright light board of some kind, surrounded by a myriad of sexy dancers.  The light board pulsates with every move Kylie makes, creating a pretty cool visual effect when shot from overhead.  Very nice!  Kylie + Cool FX, a "sexy electro disco" track and hot boys. What more could you want from a Kylie video?  Definitely one of my favorites.

'Aphrodite' Debuts In Billboard's Top 20, Marking Kylie Minogue's Highest Chart Debut in 8 Years

Congratulations to Ms. Kylie Minogue, whose 11th studio album, Aphrodite, debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200! WOOHOO! What an accomplishment! This makes Aphrodite Minogue's highest charting album here in the states since 2002's Fever! Quite the accomplishment, wouldn't you say? The album went Top 10 in a bunch of the major U.S. markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago AND Boston. As if her U.S. chart success wasn't ENOUGH of a reason for Kylie to a little happy dance, the album also debuted in the Top 10 in thirteen different countries worldwide and went straight to #1 in the UK, ousting Eminem's Recovery from the top spot. THIS makes Kylie the first solo artist in UK chart history to have four #1 albums in four different decades. WOW. Of course, all of this good news means the WORLD to Ms. Minogue.
"I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the reaction to 'Aphrodite' around the world and to hear that the album has got to number 19 in the U.S. is the most amazing news. I am ecstatic!"

Kylie Minogue Looking Flawless in new Aphrodite Photos

Photos by William Baker
JACKPOT! New Kylie Minogue photos! With the release of Kylie's stunning 11th studio album, Aphrodite now in sight I thought I would post some beautiful newly released artwork from the album campaign. Kylie looks GORGEOUS in these shots. I really love the black and white shot as well as the black lacy number she's wearing in the photo above.  The single, which is doing reasonably well all over the world is in the Top 20 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart.  The Stuart Price-produced album is out next week. Can't wait! In the meantime, feast your eyes boys...and girls...
