Hot Video Alert: Kaci Battaglia feat. Ludacris - Body Shots

Oh Kaci Battaglia. Where did things go wrong? "Body Shots" was already iffy for me. I was just waiting for the video to come out, HOPING that it would really blow me away, but it just left me wanting more and feeling dirty. Sometimes if I'm on the fence about a song, a good visual aide can really change my mind. This unfortunately is NOT the case with "Body Shots." The budget on this video is SUPER LOW. Minimal set. Sleazy back up dancers. The most expensive thing appearing in this video is rent-a-rapper Ludacris, who plays his part without ANY energy or passion. He basically just stands there while Battaglia dances beside/infront/behind him. What a blah video!

I think with her last single, "Crazy Possessive" we kind of got the impression that she was moving in a more mature popstar direction. Her latest video kind of goes overboard in that regard. "Body Shots" is the second single off Battaglia's forthcoming 4th studio album, Bring It On, her first studio album in 8 years. Right now the song is at #24 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play charts and working it's way up. Seeing how "Crazy Possesive" hit the #1 spot on the dance charts, chances are this new single will do pretty well too. I don't know...I'm still on team Kaci...I'm just a little more cautiously optimistic after this release.

Kaci Battaglia Is Bringin' Sexy Back With New Single, 'Body Shots'

It's been over a year since Kaci Battaglia released her last single, "Crazy Possesive (I'll Muck You Up)" but the wait for a follow up is FINALLY over. "Body Shots," Kaci's second single off of her as yet untitled new studio album is a dirty, raunchy club smash, similar to "Patron Tequila" by The Paradiso Girls (who also waited FOREVER between singles) in that it's a song about drinking in a club. The single features Ludacris on token rap detail, which i actually think adds to the song here. This is one of those fun club tracks that doesn't really have much in the way of substance. I feel like with "Crazy Possessive" we at least had a story, where the girl was paranoid about her man cheating on her. With "Body Shots" what you hear is what you get. No hidden meaning, no deep insight into anything - it's about a pretty girl bringing all the boys to the yard and promising them rivers of booze flowing off of her hot body.

With remixes by Dave Audé, Mig & Rizzo, Ray Roc & Gabe Ramos and WAWA it's likely going to be another #1 Club Hit for Battaglia, following "Crazy Possessive (I'll Muck You Up)"which went all the way to the top on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart.  I actually think that Curb should release one of the remix edits as the single version.  Nothing against the original version of the song but I think one of the remixes would take it up a notch or two.  While I haven't heard the WAWA remixes yet (technical difficulties over on Masterbeat), the Audé and Mig & Rizzo mixes are quality.  No word yet on when the single will be released, but seeing as the remixes are now available exclusively on Masterbeat, it can't be much longer, right?  Listen to the original version (above) PLUS a couple of the remixes below and let me hear your thoughts. Battaglia has come a LONG way since her days of covering The Partridge Family's "I Think I Love You."

Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart - August 20, 2009

Congrats to the new princess of dance...Kaci Battaglia (formerly known as Kaci). She moves up one spot into the top spot on the dance chart. She's had some club chart success in the UK but not a WHOLE lot here in the states. I was hoping she'd have a bit more mainstream success but I'll take what I can get. It appears that Sean Kingston has plateaued at # 3 and Simply Red moves down one spot to #5. We also have three new additions to the Top Ten...Black Eyed Peas ("I Gotta Feeling"), Deadmau5 & Melleefresh ("Attention Whore") and my personal fav, La Roux ("Bulletproof"). Outside of the top 10 we have Madonna with "Celebration" at #16, the Noisettes moving up 4 spots to #18, passing by the Jonas Brothers who now sit pretty at # 19. Good things to come!

Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart - August 13, 2009

Not too much movement in the Top 10 this past week. Most artists moved either one or two spots up. The Paradiso Girls dropped from 3 to 10, as did the The Pussycat Dolls, but that was to be expected as they were in the #1 spot last week. Bubbling under the Top 10 are some exciting artists including La Roux (Bulletproof - #11), Jonas Brothers (Paranoid - #21), and the Noisettes (Don't Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go) - #22). And without further ado...here's this past week's Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart.

Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart - August 6, 2009

I've been so out of it after work this past week, so my blog posts have become less frequent. I need to get myself some more energy! Perhaps I should go to the gym...I am after all paying for a membership. ANYWAY...here's this past weeks Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart. Last week's #1, Erika Jayne's "Give You Everything" drops down to #8 leaving the #1 spot to the Pussycat Dolls. Sweet! I'm also thrilled to see that "Patron Tequila" jumped up to #3. Good for the Paradiso Girls! Beyoncé's "Sweet Dreams" jumps up 8 spots this week, entering the Top 10 at #9.

Pussycat Dolls
Oh...so I'm super excited about a couple of opportunities coming up...I'll should be receiving a copy of the new (or should I say debut) Erika Jayne album for review, Pretty Mess, due out August 11th via E1 Music. EXCITING! I love Ms. Jayne. She's playing a few clubs here in the States so check her out if you can! August 11, Jayne's playing the House of Blues in Atlantic City and on September 5th, you can catch her in Vegas at Crave.

Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart - July 30, 2009

Here's Thursday's Hot Dance/Club Play Chart from Billboard. LA-based dance/electro-pop singer Erika Jayne takes the top spot this week, seeing PSB drop back down to #9. Lady Gaga's "LoveGame" also drops from #5 to #10. I'm BEYOND thrilled that the Paradiso Girls have hit the Top 5 (although I wish they'd hit the mainstream charts with just as much gusto). Not any other big moves in the Top Ten, but a side note...I'm really hoping that all of these rumors circulating about the Pussycat Dolls breaking up aren't true. I can't say that I'd be surprised if they were true, I'm just hoping they aren't. The world still needs some Doll Domination!

Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart - July 23, 2009

Billboard has always been one of my top resources for this blog. My favorite sections? The news section of course, the charts and the Ask Billboard column (now written by Gary Trust).

Sometime early this week or late last week, Billboard.com got a complete makeover. While it took me a little while to get used to it...I'm really starting to like it. It appears that the Ask Billboard column has now been melded together with Chart Beat. Makes sense I guess. The charts section AMAZING now. I love it. Gray and pink...good color scheme, Billboard. Nice work.

Billboard.com New Page Header

Every Thursday without fail, I check out Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play Chart to see which of my favorite dance artists are moving where. This chart tracks "the week's most popular songs played in dance clubs, compiled from reports from a national sample of club DJs."

Starting today, and every Thursday after I'll be posting the top 10 from Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play Chart. Sure, it's redundant if you read Billboard on your own but if you don't and you like dance music - I've got you covered!

Kaci Battaglia Channels Britney, Christina & Rihanna on New Single

Kaci Battaglia - Crazy PossessiveKaci Battaglia isn't a name you should recognize, but hopefully it will be one you'll recognize in the not too distant future. Formerly known by her first name only, 21 year-old Kaci Battaglia has been singing since she was young. Signed to Curb Records at a young age, she went on to release a few pop/dance singles. Her second single was the one I remember, a cover of "I Think I Love You," with a dance remix from UK remixers, Almighty.

Kaci BattagliaWhile her last single was released in 2007, her sound up until now, has remained fairly innocent and young. Sugary, bubblegum, fluff-pop. Not bad, but not very relevant as far as contemporary U.S. radio is concerned. Her new single, "Crazy Possessive" is going to change all of that!

Kaci Battaglia
UK music site, Popjustice, accurately compares the song to Britney's "Womanizer," Christina Aguilera's "Keeps Gettin' Better" and Rihanna's "S.O.S.," going as far as to name it last Friday's "Song of the Day." Remixes are by Digital Dog so far. This song is going to be massive! It is released on iTunes May 26th.
