Ones To Watch - Szilvia

While Sweden continues to churn out sophisticated electro-pop starlets like Robyn, Agnes, Lykki Li, Janet Leon to name a few, Eastern Europe is fast becoming a hotbed of internationally compatible pop talent.  Over the years we've seen pop stars emerge out of Russia (Alsou, t.A.T.u., Serebro) and Romania (Inna, Alexandra Stan), trying their hand at becoming international crossover  success stories, each with their own varying degrees of success in both Europe and the United States.  Next up - allow me to introduce you to Hungary's own Szilvia Péter Szabó, known simply by her first name, Szilvia.  While she remains relatively unknown outside of her native Hungary, this girl DEFINITELY has what it takes to make it on an international stage.  Check out the video for her new song, "Never Again," co-written by Szilvia, Joe Lawrence and Paul Britt.

Hot Video Alert: Pierre Lewis - Out Of My Mind

English singer/songwriter Pierre Lewis is BACK with a hot new pop/R&B single called "Out Of My Mind" and let me tell you this much...DEFINITELY worth the wait.  Last we heard from Lewis (musically) was back in 2009 when he released the sexy pop single "Going" not to mention it's predecessor, the catchy mid-tempo ballad "Broken."  On "Out Of My Mind" Lewis moves in a grittier, edgier more CURRENT direction.  Channeling contemporaries like Ne-Yo, Jason Derülo, even Usher, Pierre Lewis' new single blends pop and R&B, with a slick electro undercurrent propelling the song forward.  All in all, a nice and welcomed return for one of Music Is My King Size Bed's favorite UK pop artists.

"Out Of My Mind" is the first single taken from Lewis' forthcoming Transitions EP and was produced by Trap Team (signed to T-Pain's Dream Star/Nappy Boy Entertainment).  The single AND EP will both be out in the UK September 19th on Colonel Music/Universal.

Pierre Lewis To Release New EP in June, Gives Fans an Early Taste

British singer Pierre Lewis has released a little snippet of a new song called "Stay" on his YouTube channel and while it may only be a snippet, it really gets me excited about what's coming up next. Produced by Trap Team, "Stay" will be Lewis' first foray into a more R&B direction from his last set of more pop-leaning releases. From what I've heard, "Stay" sounds like a step in the right direction for Lewis who's 2008 debut single "Broken" was good but not good enough to make him stand out as an artist. Trap Team (signed to T-Pain's Dream Star/Nappy Boy Entertainment) may just be what the Doctor ordered to give Lewis an edgy R&B/Pop makeover.

"Stay" will be included on Lewis' forthcoming EP, Transition which is due out the first week of June. The name 'Transition' is fairly self explanatory in that Lewis is changing directions both sonically and stylistically - going through a transition if you will. Preparing for the eventual album release, Lewis also announced that he'll be shooting a documentary over the next few months with filmmaker Stewart Read, who's also worked with JLS.  In addition to shooting a documentary, Lewis has been busy meeting with photographers, including Kate Murrell, who's lovely photo I'm featuring above from the artists' Facebook page. Lewis also seems to be getting noticed here in the States, according to a recent Tweet by Lewis who said that a certain major U.S. TV network is looking to use one of his songs in a hit show.  AMAZING!  Listen to the "Stay" snippet below and make sure you keep checking back PierreOfficial.com for all the latest updates.

Pierre Lewis Moving in New R&B Direction, Taps US Hip/Hop Production Team 'Trap Team' For Debut Album

If you haven't checked out Pierre Lewis' official website in a while, you're in for a real treat. The site has been given a much-needed make over and it's now FULL of goodies. As promised, it looks like 2011 is going to be Lewis' year to shine. According to his blog, Lewis has lined up the US production team Trap Team (signed to T-Pain's Dream Star/Nappy Boy Entertainment) to work on a new R&B-tinged pop sound for Lewis' forthcoming album. The album, tentatively due out late summer will be released on Lewis' own label, Colonel Music which is distributed by Universal. Trap Team has worked with the likes of Young Cash, Rick Ross, Slim Thug and of course...T-Pain himself. I gotta admit - I think this shift in direction could really work for Lewis. Describing his planned new sound, Lewis really seems to have a firm grasp on just WHO HE IS as an artist.

"I think most un-manufactured artists go through a phase of transition, I call it the butterfly effect. You start the creative process in auto pilot, being lead along by your ideas of what people want...then a light comes on and you find yourself as an artist, having a vision for both your music and personal style. I’ve stripped away the shine, it's hard cos I really got tarnished with the pop brush... so of course I think the sexier new edge stuff from me is going to be a shock." {SOURCE}

Sexier? Yes please! Last week, in one of his 'Tune in Tuesday' segments, Lewis expanded on this new style. One new song that Lewis is particularly excited about is called "Stay," and Lewis describes it as "taking of where 'Broken' left off, but kind of going with a new R&B direction." Jesse McCartney anyone? I can really see Lewis going in that whole direction. "Broken," as amazing as it was, was pure, unadulterated POP music. I agree that to survive in this tough musical climate, Lewis needs a little bit more edge. From the sounds of it, Trap Team could give Lewis the edge he needs to be taken seriously as the star he really is.

Pierre Lewis Back with Music in 2011...Gives Us Sexy Pics in the Meantime

Wow. I can't believe it's been nearly three years since I last heard from UK singer/songwriter Pierre Lewis.  Back in November of 2008, Lewis released his debut single "Broken," which went on to peak at #6 on the UK club chart.  In May of the following year he quietly released a song called "Going," which I think I remember...not 100% sure...

No matter! According to Lewis "it's all about 2011!!"  In response to a Tweet where I asked him about his new album, Lewis went on to say "It'll be out next year. We've been holding back and perfecting...the UK's not been ready yet...but pop's fighting back."  Fighting back it is!  Can't wait to hear the new album.  It sounds like the wait will be well worth it.  "Hopefully it'll be well received, so much of my heart and soul is in it."  

In the meantime (also according to Lewis via Twitter)...we have a 2011 Pierre Lewis calendar to look forward to.  Scope out the above photos to get an idea for what we can expect. Sign me up! Happy New Year indeed!

Recent Ebay Purchases

Yeah, I'm back at it again on Ebay. This weekend I got some goodies by Amy Studt, Sarah Whatmore and a new British singer named Pierre. Amy Studt has been on my radar since her first album False Smiles, where her songs "Misfit" and "Just A Little Girl" were standouts. Whatmore was a former contestant on UK's Pop Idol and "Smile" is the first single off her upcoming album Time To Think. Pierre is a new singer from the UK whom I really don't know much about. I've heard a remix of his single "Broken" and liked it. He's also super cute.
