Hot Video Alert: Paul Morrell feat. Mutya Buena - Give Me Love

Mutya Buena (along with Keisha Buchanan) might very well be the best thing to ever come out of UK girl group, the Sugababes. A complete original, Mutya Buena parted ways with the group in 2005, leaving the very capable Keisha Buchanan to hold down the fort, as the last of the original line up. In 2007 Mutya released her debut solo album, Real Girl, which debuted at #10 on the UK Albums Charts and spawned two Top Ten singles before ultimately being dropped by Universal due to poor sales. While we've heard peeps out of her sporadically since leaving her label, the future of her music career seemed to be in question, after an interview last October with InTheNews.co.uk where Mutya announced that she was going back to school. You definitely have to applaud the talented singer for following her hopes and dreams, although secretly I was dying inside at this news.

Well, we can all breathe a sigh of relief (for now) because Mutya is back stronger than ever. Featuring on a new dance track from Ministry of Soundʼs 2009 Best Breakthorugh DJ, Paul Morrell Mutya does what she does best. The high energy dance single, "Give Me Love" has yet to be released but DID appear on a compilation CD at the end of December remixed by Hoxton Whores. The single will be backed with remixes by Fabio Stien, Reset The Preset, Tripwire and Hoxton Whores. Sounds pretty epic to me. Check out the video for the single below.

"Give Me Love" marks Morrell's return to New State/Maelstrom Records, a professional collaboration last heard back in October with the release of the Sonique-assisted "Only You." Let's hope this is a sign that Mutya is plotting a return to music. Let's also hope that it get's an official release date soon.

Mutya Buena featuring Amy Winehouse - B Boy Baby

And what a surprise...no appearence from Ms. Winehouse. Oh well. The song's alright but the video is rather boring. At least Mutya looks nice.

Amy Amy Amy (outro)

Oh Amy, Amy, Amy. You're a hot mess. Yet you're still managing to saturate the UK radio airwaves with your music. Your cover of The Zuton's 2006 top ten hit, Valerie has become your highest charting UK single so far (Number 2!) and it's a collaboration with Mark Ronson! Not even off of your own album! Next up you have your final single from BACK TO BLACK, Love Is A Losing Game (released December 10th), and finally you've lined up Mutya Buena as a collaboration...or more like she's landed you. B Boy Baby (released December 31st) is slowly growing on me.

Where have you been in all of the videos though? In Valerie you were absent and had to be replaced by a selection of different girls with beehives...not the same. In your new single, Love Is A Losing Game, the official video will be a live performance. OK. That's at least you. Who knows what's going to happen with the Mutya single, though I'd be surprised if you made an appearance. I was pleased to find a new video of the Baby J. remix of Valerie. You are in the video in one form or another (black & white image of you dancing in a poster)...pretty cool. I just hope you get yourself together and get back to making really awesome music.

Mutya Buena - B Boy Baby

I was rather elated when I learned that Mutya Buena (formerly of the Sugababes) decided to release her collaboration with Amy Winehouse, "B Boy Baby," as the next single from her debut solo effort. Borrowing from the 1963 Ronette's song, "Be My Baby," this new track is a grower. These days, almost anything (musically) that Winehouse touches, has been turning to gold (or at least silver or bronze), so let's hope the same thing happens here.

REAL GIRL has by and large been a big disappointment for me. The album versions of "Real Girl" and "Just A Little Bit" have been unimpressive in my opinion. The Moto Blanco Remix of "Real Girl" was enjoyable, while the remixes of "Just A Little Bit" were rather boring. The Mutya/Groove Armada collaboration was kinda hot ("Song 4 Mutya"). Even the Amy Winehouse duet didn't start off well with me but it's growing on me.

Apparently Soulwax and the Desert Eagles have remixed this new single so hopefully that will seal the deal with me. As far as I can tell, Mutya's album hasn't been doing too well on the UK album charts, with each new single selling worse than it's predecessor. Here's to Mutya! Best of luck with this one! Your solo career may need all the luck it can get!
