Sophie Ellis-Bextor 'Makes A Scene,' in Celebration of New Album Launch

Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be celebrating the release of her fourth album, Make A Scene on June 14th via her own label, EBGB in London and tickets are available to the public! YET ANOTHER reason I wish I lived in the UK. UGH! The event will be held at XOYO on Tuesday June 14th, with tickets available at Livenation.co.uk, check out the promotional poster above.  Hopefully someone reading gets to go and can tell me who the "GUESTS" are. So jealous!

Make A Scene will be Ellis-Bextor's fourth album and features a mixture of pop, disco, Nu-Disco and 80s electro.  Sounds right up my alley!  New single, "Starlight" is a "chilled dance anthem" with a "soft but edgy beat," a perfect taste off her album.  Make A Scene features a whole slew of in demand dance-pop producers and songwriters including Freemasons, Greg Kurstin, Calvin Harris, Cathy Dennis, Metronomy, Richard X and Armin Van Buuren.  The album's opening track, "Revolution," was co-written by Ellis-Bextor, Greg Kurstin and Cathy Dennis, while "Off & On," features production by Calvin Harris, who originally penned the track with Róisín Murphy in mind.  The album also includes previous singles "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)," "Bittersweet" and "Not Giving Up On Love."

Check out Sophie Ellis-Bextor on tour this summer when she joins Erasure and Bryan Ferry as well as a few headlining appearances at various UK festivals.  You can also keep an eye out for Sophie when she makes an appearance on The Feeling's (her husband's band) new album, due June 19th.  Sophie's single, "Starlight," is out now in the UK and you can pre-order the album on iTunes HERE.  Get ready for new Sophie on June 13th!

Hot Video Alert: The Feeling - Set My World On Fire

UK pop band The Feeling (AKA Dan Gillespie Sells, Richard Jones, Kevin Jeremiah, Ciaran Jeremiah, Paul Stewart) has released a new video for their single, "Set My World On Fire," the first single from the band's third album, Together We Were Made. The album is due out June 19th on MCA Music, Inc./Island Records and features collaborations with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Róisín Murphy, Freemasons and rock-producer Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, 30 Seconds To Mars).

Made available to download on May 1st, "Set My World On Fire" was used as the theme song to the 2011 Cricket World Cup. A clubified remix of the guitar pop single was made by James Doman and Pete Gooding and is available as an extra track on the digital single, available on UK iTunes, along with a B-Side called "Seven Years." If you pre-order the deluxe version of the album HERE on iTunes you also get two bonus tracks, including the Betty Boo-assisted "Virtually Art." UK Pop/Rock Outfit The Feeling Collaborate with Freemasons, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Róisín Murphy on new LP - First Single Out Next Week

One of my favorite British bands, The Feeling is getting ready to release their third studio album, Together We Were Made, on June 19th. This is exciting for a number of reasons...FIRST being...it means that we have new music from The Feeling. SECOND, the band has collaborated with UK house music production duo the Freemasons. THIRD, the band has collaborated with electro-pop diva (and wife of bassist Richard Jones), Sophie Ellis-Bextor on a song called "Leave Me Out." FOURTH, the band has ALSO collaborated with Irish electro-pop singer Róisín Murphy on a song called "Dance For The Lights." AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!   All of these combined factors are getting me quite riled up over this new album! It sounds like a masterpiece in the making.

The band worked on the new album with producer Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, 30 Seconds To Mars, Fefe Dobson) and plans to release the first official single, "Set My World On Fire" on May 1st. The single was written and produced by the band and served as the theme song to the 2011 Cricket World Cup (as you can see from the video below, prominently featuring the song). The song "fuses a refreshingly cynicism free brand of sunshine seeking Tropicalia with The Feelings distinctive guitar pop powerhouse sound." What's more, the song has been remixed for the clubs by Doman & Gooding (AKA James Doman & Pete Gooding). What a way to make a comeback!

The Feeling have not only sold over 1 million albums in the UK alone, but also won the prestigious Ivor Novello award for 'Songwriters of the Year' in 2007 so it's high time we had something new to play on our iPods from these guys.  From the sound of it, this album is going to be an epic pop/rock/dance masterpiece!!  Listen to "Set My World On Fire" below and download it when it's released in the UK on May 1st (via MCA Music, Inc./Island Records).

Make A Scene: Sophie Ellis-Bextor to Release New Single + New Album June 6th!

No news is good news I guess, at least when it comes to word on UK singer/songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor.  It seems like I'd been waiting an eternity for solid, reliable word on exactly WHEN Ellis-Bextor would be releasing her 4th studio album. Sure, there were snippets of news and random interviews, but nothing official from her label - that is, until last week when we were hit with a SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR bomb! New single AND new album, all in a little over a month! AMAZING!

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Starlight by PurplePR

Ellis-Bextor will release her new single, the Richard X-produced "Starlight," on June 6th, followed by her new album - Make A Scene on the same day! Give me a moment. I NEED A MOMENT! You see, I've been following Sophie Ellis-Bextor since my first trip to London. My first stop once I landed, was a Borders. In that borders, I picked up three albums: Dannii Minogue's Neon Nights, Celine Dion's All The Way...A Decade of Song and Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Read My Lips. Sophie wasn't entirely new to me, as I had been obsessing over Ellis-Bextor's "Murder On The Dancefloor" video throughout college as well as the videos for "Take Me Home," "Get Over You," and "Music Gets The Best of Me." Almost instantly I fell in love with her super model looks, that sexy posh accent, not to mention the disco-pop vibe of her music.

Ellis-Bextor's sophomore album, Shoot From The Hip came out just after I graduated college and I remember stopping in the Virgin Megastore on Michigan Avenue to pick it up. That Virgin ALWAYS had a great selection of import singles and albums, so I knew it was the place to go. 2007 saw the release of Ellis-Bextor's third album, Trip The Light Fantastic. By this point I was living in Boston and ordered the album online from CD WOW. While I love each of her albums, when it comes down to it, they have all paled in comparison to the original. Read My Lips was consistently good with virtually NO filler. While Read My Lips will always be my favorite Ellis-Bextor album, from what I've heard of Make A Scene, I think I might have a 2nd favorite.

"Starlight" deserves to be a hit.  Co-penned by Sophie along with Hannah Robinson and Richard X, "Starlight" takes her trademark electro-pop sound and puts it on ice.  It's chilled and light - the perfect Springtime dance anthem!  Co-writing many of the album's tracks, Sophie teamed up with a team of talented writers and producers, including Freemasons, Greg Kurstin, Calvin Harris, Cathy Dennis, Metronomy, Richard X and Armin Van Buuren.

So far, three singles have been released off the album and two of them were produced by UK electronica outfit, Freemasons.  "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)" was released in June of 2009 where it peaked at #13 on the UK Singles chart.  The follow up to "Heartbreak" was also a Freemasons-produced number called "Bittersweet," released nearly a year later.  That single only managed to peak at #25 on the UK charts.  Sophie's third single, "Not Giving Up On Love," was technically Dutch trance producer/DJ Armin van Buuren's single but the song appears on both Make A Scene and van Buuren's Mirage album.  The single peaked at #165 on the UK Singles chart.  While none of the singles have really sparkled on the UK charts, they are doing amazingly well in Eastern Europe.  "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)" went all the way to #2 on the Russian Singles charts, while "Bittersweet" hit #3 over in Poland.  Third single, "Not Giving Up On Love" peaked at #3 in Russia and #1 in Poland.  Here's hoping "Starlight" makes more of an impression on the UK charts.

Hot Video Alert: Armin van Buuren vs. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Not Giving Up On Love

"Not Giving Up On Love," the new single from Dutch Trance producer/DJ Armin van Buuren is out now and features a stunning video with the beautiful and talented Sophie Ellis-Bextor.  The song is from van Buuren's forthcoming fourth album Mirage, due out September 10th.  The album features a bunch of exciting collaborations from the likes of Christian Burns (BBMak), Nadia Ali, BT, Ferry Corsten, Adam Young (Owl City) and of course Ms. Ellis-Bextor.  The video, which was filmed in beautiful Ibiza features lots of pretty scenery, lots of Sophie laying out by the pool, having fun on a yacht as well as some cool club footage with van Buuren spinning up a storm.  Very David Guetta-esque...but what are you going to do? I guess you have to feature the DJ somewhere in the video.  As excited as I am for van Buuren's album this really only just makes me more anxious to hear new solo material from Sophie Ellis-Bextor.  According to Ellis-Bextor, Straight To The Heart will be out in October.

• Sophie Ellis-Bextor's New Single Failing To Impact Charts: Poor Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Looks like UK radio stations aren't playing Sophie's new SMASH single, "Bittersweet." Pity! It's such a gorgeous song (produced by the incomparable Freemasons). Accompanied by a beautiful video, I'm not sure what the deal is. Fefe Dobson

New Fefe Dobson Album due out May 14th: Well THIS has been a long time coming! Fefe Dobson's long-awaited second album (now called Joy) will be released on May 14th. This will be Dobson's first new album in 7 years (after Sunday Love was scrapped and Dobson was dropped by Island Records). Now RE-SIGNED to Island Records, Joy will be released with help from 21 Music, her manager's label. Check out the video for "I Want You." - via Music Fascination

• Geri Halliwell Back In The Studio: Former Spice Girl and UN Goodwill Ambassador Geri Halliwell is reportedly BACK in the studio and making new music. If this is true, this would be her first album since 2005's chart failure, Passion. The album stalled on the UK charts at 41 while both singles fared a little better with "Ride It" peaking at 4 and "Desire" peaking at 22. It will be interesting to see what direction Halliwell goes with her fourth album. - via Daily Mirror

• Kelis' Production Team Release Flesh Tone Mixtape: There's a new mixtape floating around the internet, courtesy of DJ Replay from FreeSchool, the production team that's been working with Kelis on her forthcoming electro-dance album Flesh Tone. The 25 + minute mixtape features snippets of new material as well as remixes and mashups of past songs including "Milkshake," "Bossy," "Get Along With You" and "Caught Out There." Michelle Branch Explains Album Delay and Talks Timbaland Collaboration: I LOVE Michelle Branch. When I heard that The Wreckers were taking a break while both she and Jessica Harp work on their solo careers, I was excited. Country, typically speaking, isn't my cup of tea. Of course, Branch's solo album is expected to have a country influence but that's fine. I'll deal. The Prophet Blog referred to a blog post (which I cannot find any more) in which Branch explains the internal label turmoil over at Warner Nashville. Branch assures her fans that the label is still VERY supportive of her new material. "There's light at the end of the tunnel" she says. She closes by hinting at a "super exciting" bit of news, which she revealed via Twitter the next day. "Just got home from the studio with Timbaland." Um...hot? • After Split with Epic, Jennifer Lopez Joins Island/Def Jam Family: With Jennifer Lopez already in the midst of promoting her forthcoming 7th studio album, Love? her split with Sony's Epic Records in February came as a bit of a shock. Initial reports were saying that Love? was being scrapped altogether but Lopez maintained that the album was on its way. Now, Lopez herself has confirmed signing with L.A. Reid's Island Def Jam label. With the lackluster chart performance of both "Fresh Out The Oven" and "Louboutins," it will be interesting to see where Def Jam takes Lopez and her new album. - via HitFix

Katy Perry's Sophomore Set will be a "Summer Record": Love her or hate her, Katy Perry is someone to talk about. Katy's follow up to her Grammy-nominated "One of the Boys" is due out this summer and according to Perry at the Kids' Choice Awards - "It's a summer record." Talking about what fans can expect from the album, she says "It's roller-skating! It's 90's! It's Ace of Base! It's Cyndi Lauper." This album sounds potentially VERY hot. Collaborating with the likes of Greg Wells, Guy Sigsworth, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Rivers Cuomo, this could be one of the most anticipated albums of the summer! - via MTV

Nadine Coyle Signs Label Deal with Geffen Records: According to sources, Girls Aloud's Nadine Coyle has inked a deal with Geffen Records. This is exciting news, as there have been rumors swirling about that Coyle was having difficulty nailing a label deal. Coyle has been had at work making her debut solo album, recording with producers William Orbit, Mike Elizondo , Toby Gad, Guy Chambers, Steve Booker, Desmond Child and Tony Kanal. She's also written material with Lucie Silvas, Kyle Cook (from Matchbox 20) and J Remy. - via Digital Spy

Sophie Ellis-Bextor Re-Teams with Freemasons for New Single

I fully realize that this is old news by now (although in my defense, I did Tweet about it back when I first heard) but one of my favorite UK popstars, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is gearing up to release a brand new single this Spring. HALLELUJAH!

Confirmed by Sophie herself on Twitter (@SophieEB), the new single is called "Bittersweet" and it was produced by the ever-brilliant Freemasons (same hitmakers that produced "Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer)"). The track was written by the Freemasons as well as Biff and Hannah Robinson.

According to Sophie herself, "the new single's about when you can't resist something that you know is bad for you. A guilty pleasure." The single is due to be released in April but will hit UK radio stations in February. The album also seems to be coming along nicely, per a Tweet on January 6th: "Done last bit of singing for album 4 today. Now i just need to get a great album title... Ideas?"
I for one loved Trip The Light Fantastic as an album title (and album) so I'm sure that the new material will be FANTASTIC as well. 2010 is going to mark the return of Ms. EB. Bloody brilliant! Check out Sophie's brand new website and forum revamp.

Sugababes - Get Sexy Remixes

I wish I had more connections! I know DJs get special promotional CDs in the mail from the record labels and other such company's but MAN. I want in! I buy the promos on Ebay, but those can get quite expensive quite fast. I know a lot of blogs post the remixes for free download, but if I can buy them and they aren't $80.00...I'd rather do that. I guess I'm off to an OK start (part of that "special blogging opportunity" I mentioned before).

One promo that I'm especially antsy for is the new Sugababes single, "Get Sexy," which I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. It's a HOT song! I saw a notice over on Euro Solution for an advanced promo of the track...and while the track listing isn't THAT impressive (in the number of remixes)...it's a start.

Looks like we can expect remixes from Superbass and Bitrocka...both of whom I'm familiar with. Most recently Bitrocka remixed the new Freemasons/Sophie Ellis-Bextor track and Superbass did one of the last Will Young singles. I've been listening to Kelly's new album a lot more recently. It really is a good album, despite what some people might be saying. Sure, it's more pop than her last album. Who cares. There are quality songs on there. Beyonce and Jordin...I honestly think Beyonce is showing up in my chart due to all of the remixes I have on my iPod. I haven't listened to Sasha Fierce in full since it came out. Jordin Sparks - same thing. I've been listening to her "One Step At A Time" remixes a lot, as well as the new "Battlefield" remixes. I can't wait for her new album, out in a couple of weeks. I'm also thrilled that her new single will be "S.O.S. (Let The Music Play), which samples Shannon's dance hit "Let The Music Play."

I don't know what it is about that Pitbull song, but I can't stop listening to it over and over again! VV Brown is someone I am drawn to as well, but for a completely different reason. I'm sad to report that her album has leaked in full, but I definitely implore you to go out and purchase it next week. I will be ordering mine from CDWOW. Keisha White is an artist whom I quiet enjoy. I think I first heard of the Brit before her song "Don't Mistake Me" made it onto an episode of Grey's Anatomy, but I don't remember. She also has a nice cover of Joan Armatrading's "The Weakness In Me" (which I first heard on the 10 Things I Hate About You soundtrack). The Steamweaver remix of Beyonce's new single is good, definitely go and download it if you haven't already. I love Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and this LIVE PERFORMANCE of her doing this song just reiterates how talented she is.

• David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over - Holy dance hit! Congrats to Kelly, who, although was dropped from her label recently, collaborated with dance genius David Guetta and put out this number 1 dance hit!

• Daniel Merriweather - Red - Beautiful song. Beautiful man.
• Lily Allen - Fuck You (Explicit) - Hilarious video.

Looks like the Freemasons new video with Sophie Ellis-Bextor leaked last week. I'm thrilled! I love Sophie and I love the Freemasons. This video is magic! Sophie looks (and sounds) fantastic as always and the beats are bumpin' on this jam. I can't wait to hear the remixes. It's released on June 22nd in the UK. Pre-order yours here. Freemasons featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Thanks to a user on the Pulse Music Board, I've learned that the next single from British dance masters, the Freemasons (with featured guest vocalist Sophie Ellis-Bextor) will be out in the UK on June 15th. Awesome! I'll definitely be ordering this one. I love Sophie and I love Freemasons! Check out the tracklisting below. Freemasons and Sophie Ellis-Bextor Shooting a New Video

According to Sophie Ellis-Bextor via her Twitter, "I have styling meeting next week for 'Heartbreak' video. What to wear?"

I'm thrilled that she's shooting a video for "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)." Sophie is one of my favorite UK pop stars. She has teamed up with remixers/producers Freemasons on this track, which originally appeared on her official MySpace page along with a Calvin Harris-produced Off & On, (both since removed). It was rumored to be released as a single off of Sophie's planned Greatest Hits album. Plans for a Greatest Hits album were apparently put on hold but I'm hearing that she is instead working on new material for a brand new album, due out this summer. Fingers crossed!

This song is a lot of fun. Electro-pop at it's best with Sophie's fantastic posh accent coming through. I love how you can really hear her accent when she sings. With a lot of artists you can't tell where they are from when they're singing.

Now I don't really consider Wikipedia a reliable resource, but according to the website "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)" is being released to radio in the UK May 4th, digitally June 15 and on CD Single on June 22. It will also be released in the rest of Europe around this time, with a full CD Maxi with remixes (hopefully). Also according to Wikipedia, it has a release date in Australia of July 11th and a digital release in the US sometime in 2009. Hmmmm...too good to be true?
