Hot Remix Alert: Patrick Wolf - Together (Garcon Garcon Remix)

Talented English singer/songwriter Patrick Wolf will release his brand new EP, Brumalia, on November 28th. The EP features a beautiful song called "Together," a standout on Patrick's recent string of live shows. According to Wolf himself,
"'Together’ has been the highlight of the live shows over the last year, the audience reaction to this song has been totally inspiring, I always saw it as a song about two lovers reuniting in the dark rainy days around December. For the last few years I’ve been writing a song around Christmas time, creating this winter EP.‘Brumalia’ (which translates as ‘festival of the shortest day’), in a way is like a little brother or sister record to ‘Lupercalia.'"
Brumalia succeeds Wolf's fifth studio album, Lupercalia, which came out this past summer on Hideout /Mercury Records.  The album went on to become Wolf's highest charting album on the UK charts, peaking at #37.  Previous effort, 2009's The Bachelor only managed to peak at #49, whereas his breakout record, 2007's The Magic Position came in at #46.  The album saw the release of three singles, "Time Of My Life," "The City," and "House," none of which really made a dent in the singles charts.  I'm not sure if Wolf is altogether scrapping promotion of his last album, but this new EP should satisfy anyone looking for new music this holiday season.

As a special treat, download this fantastically uptempo remix of Wolf's new song "Together," taken from the forthcoming EP release.  The remix was done by Sydney based electro-pop duo Garcon Garcon. Check out their website HERE for more information!

Hot Video Alert: Patrick Wolf - House

"House" is the third single taken off of Patrick Wolf's forthcoming fifth studio album, Lupercalia, due June 20th in the UK on Mercury Records.  All of the singles as well as the album were written and produced by Wolf, including "House" and it's predecessor "The City," released back in March.

Despite not having too much in the way of chart success ("The City" peaked at #195 on the UK Singles chart), "House" was chosen as BBC Radio 2's 'Record of the Week' during the week of May 21st, which is a pretty big deal. I've always loved the theatrical quality Patrick Wolf brings to everything he sings, and backed by a steady dance beat like this song is, the song really turns into something special.   The single was released both digitally, and on a special edition 7" Vinyl.  Go get it on UK iTunes HERE. You can also download "The City," along with the AMAZING Richard X remix, which I hadn't heard until now. BRILLIANT. UK fans can also pre-order the album featuring both "House" and "The City" HERE.

I look forward to hopefully seeing Wolf bring his flamboyant stage show to America again soon.  Seeing him open for Amy Winehouse was such a treat!

Patrick Wolf Unveils 'Lupercalia' Track Listing

With the release of Patrick Wolf's new single "The City" only one week away, now seems like as good a time as any to unveil the track listing for his new album, Lupercalia.

Track Listing:

The City
House
Bermondsey Street
The Future
Armistice
William
Time Of My LIfe
The Days
Slow Motion
Together
The Falcon

Lupercalia, due May 31st on Hideout Recordings/Mercury Records, will be Wolf's first foray into major label territory. Not only did Wolf write and produce the entire album but he also plays a variety of instruments on the disc, including Viola, Piano, Appalachian Dulcimer, Epiphone Guitar, Baritone Ukulele, Moog Opus 3 and Timpani. Wow! Quite impressive. Preceding the album release in May, Wolf is set to release "The City" on March 14th. The hook-driven single, which really showcases Wolf's unique vocal style, has been building great support at British radio and is looking to be a big hit for the talented singer/songwriter from South London. Chart success isn't something that's come easily for Wolf, but that honestly doesn't seem to be a factor in doing what it is that he does. For Wolf, it's all about the music and all about the performance.

The Magic Position, Wolf's best selling album to date peaked at #46 on the UK Albums Chart and at #42 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart back in 2007 with the album was originally released. Wolf's follow up, The Bachelor managed to peak at #49, just three spots down from The Magic Position. Wolf's most successful single to date is 2005's "The Libertine," taken from Wolf's sophomore album Wind In The Fires, peaked at #67 on the UK Singles Chart. The title track from Wolf's third album, The Magic Position peaked at #69 in 2007.

Let's hope that with a little help from a major label Wolf can jack up his mainstream cred with the release of "The City" and the subsequent release of Lupercalia. While cult status isn't something to scoff at, major nationwide radio play and CD sales couldn't hurt the 27-year old singer/songwriter.  Wolf has worked with a diverse range of artists, everyone from Florence Welch and Marianne Faithfull, to Tilda Swinton and Nan Golden. Most recently, the legendary Patti Smith invited Wolf to join her band for a few performances, including one celebrating the life of controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. More recently, Wolf joined Smith on stage for a short series of dates in the UK. Quite the honor! "The City" is the second single taken from Lupercalia, the first of which, "Time Of My Life," was released late last year. While there's no word yet on whether Wolf will release his new album in America, U.S. fans can relive all of the classics on iTunes by clicking HERE. UK fans can pre-order the new album HERE. Just for good measure, check out the video for "The City" below.

Hot Video Alert: Patrick Wolf - The City

"The City" is the second single from Patrick Wolf's forthcoming fifth studio album, Lupercalia. Scheduled for release on March 14th, "The City" was both written and produced by Wolf.  The song is quirky yet catchy - in typical Patrick Wolf tradition, with an emphasis on the quirky. It has elements of pop, elements of folk and bits of rock and electronica sprinkled throughout - very David Bowie-esque, if you ask me.

Patrick Wolf - The City (Richard X Remix) by Your Army

The video (BELOW) was directed by Kinga Burza and filmed in Santa Monica, California.  Also worth a listen is the new Richard X remix of "The City," which you can listen to above.  Lupercalia is due out May 30th on Hideout/Mercury Records.  Can't wait for this one!

Patrick Wolf to Release New Single on Monday, New Album Due in May

Quirky and flamboyant (not to mention mega-talented) UK singer/songwriter Patrick Wolf has always been an artist that I've respected and admired. He's never been one to keep his mouth shut, choosing instead to be blunt and honest in every way. Written and produced by the 27 year old Wolf, "Time Of My Life" is the first single taken from his forthcoming fifth studio album, due out in May. I first became aware of Wolf around the time of The Magic Position and was THRILLED at the chance to see him live (up close & personal) when he opened for Amy Winehouse in Boston a couple of years back. Quirky doesn't even begin to describe his stage show. If I remember correctly Wolf was decked out in some crazy tight red leather pants, prancing about the stage at, what was formerly Avalon. His performance was definitely not everyone's cup of tea but WOW could that boy put on a show.

His haunting new single, out December 6th on a very limited edition 7" vinyl pressing, is filled with an appropriate amount of drama, thanks to a lovely strings section and of course . The song has a very 80s feel to it, very reminiscent of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game".  Admittedly, I wasn't quite sure what to expect prior to hearing the single, given Wolf's penchant for inconsistency but I have to admit I am liking this quite a bit. "Time Of My Life" will be Wolf's first release on Hideout Recordings, a new offshoot of Mercury/Universal Records.  UK fans can catch Wolf playing two shows on December 5th at Cardiff Club lfor Bach and on December 6th at Guildford Boileroom.  Following the release of his single, Wolf will also play a show on December 7th at London's Bloomsbury Ballroom, showcasing new material and old favorites spanning his previous four albums.  We can expect a second single sometime in March, followed by the (as yet untitled) album in May. The "Time Of My Life" vinyl also includes a B-Side cover of Leonard Cohen's "Anthem."  Check out the lyric video for "Time Of My Life."

Loads of New Album & Single Artwork!

Massive album artwork update here. Per usual, most of the artwork came from Coverlandia and Covermania. Enjoy!

Erika Jayne - Pretty Mess As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm looking forward to reviewing the debut album, Pretty Mess, from dance music artist, Erika Jayne. Her album is due out August 11th (this Tuesday) and features her #1 dance hits "Rollercoaster," "Stars" and "Give You Everything." Jayne recorded the album with veteran producers Peter Rafelson and Eric Kupper. Can't wait for this one!

Whitney Houston - Million Dollar BillWow. This song makes me really excited about the new Whitney Houston album. "I Look To You" is absolutely gorgeous but this up-tempo jam, produced by Swizz Beats, is HOT. Whitney looks great in the sleeve artwork as well. Nice to see a return to form for Ms. Houston. "Million Dollar Bill" is supposedly going to be released simultaneously with first single, "I Look To You," most likely to appease multiple formats.

Patrick Wolf - The BachelorPatrick Wolf is quite the performer. I had the good fortune of seeing him open for Amy Winehouse at what used to be Avalon. Such a good show. I enjoyed his last album The Magic Position, and should probably check out some of his new material. This is the album artwork from his most recent album, The Bachelor. Not particularly new, since the album was released in June. The first two singles off of the album are "Hard Times" and "Vulture." Also, of particular interest to me...the title song...it features an appearance from English folk musician Eliza Carthy. I reviewed Carthy's CD, Angels & Cigarettes for the Indiana Daily Student back when I was in college. Oh the joys of receiving free music. Of course, most of the CDs I wanted to review I had to pay for. Oh well!

The Killers - The World We Live InAlso not particularly new is the single artwork for the third UK single from The Killers' last album, Day & Age. The artwork for "The World We Live In" (which was released in May) continues in the tradition set by previous singles, featuring a mosaic portrait of one of the band members...this time of bass guitarist Ronnie Vannucci Jr. First single, "Human" featured keyboardist David Keuning, "Spaceman" featured the hotness that is lead singer Brandon Flowers and "A Dustland Fairytale" features guitarist Mark Stoermer.

Paloma Faith - New YorkThe new artwork for the second Paloma Faith single has been unveiled. Lovely. Just as classy and elegant as the "Stone Cold Sober" artwork, and album artwork for her forthcoming debut Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful? - out September 21st. "New York" comes out in the UK on September 13th - the video has already been shot. I haven't heard this song yet but I can't wait! Paloma's album is one of my most anticipated albums of the year and one of my "artists to watch." Additionally, you can expect remixes from Tom Middleton, Cutmore and Starsmith. [EDIT] - I LOVE THIS SONG. The video is stunning as well. Wow. Powerhouse.

Miley Cyrus - Party in the U.S.A."Party In The U.S.A." is the first single off of a new Walmart-exclusive Miley Cyrus EP, The Time Of Our Lives. Apparently it's going to be released in conjunction with the unveiling of Miley's new clothing line. The track was officially released to radio stations on July 29th. I'm not the biggest Miley fan, but she does look more mature in this artwork. She's growing up, alright.

Mika - The Boy Who Knew Too MuchThe new Mika album, entitled The Boy Who Knew Too Much, has me really excited. Not only is Mika super cute, but he's super talented. I hope he supports this new album here in the states. It's due out September 22nd in the U.S. (September 21 in the UK) and is lead by first single "We Are Golden." I still need to buy his first album, Life In Cartoon Motion." The album artwork was designed by Mika's sister, who works under the name DaWack. Good stuff!

Erik Hassle - PiecesThis appears to be new album artwork from Swedish singer Erik Hassle, though I'm not sure what this is...album? Single? I was under the impression that THIS was the album artwork. Can anyone confirm? Perhaps this artwork is for the album's UK debut? Regardless...this looks pretty cool.

Erik Hassle - HurtfulThis was Hassle's first Swedish single, "Hurtful." I love the stencil-like fonts here, as well as the black and white photo with the pink lettering. Simple and clean.

Erik Hassle - Don't Bring Flowers"Don't Bring Flowers" is Erik Hassle's UK debut single and has been described as a "synthy acoustic number." Very cool. I'm looking forward to hearing this album in full! The Swedes really do know how to do pop music right. The official video was filmed in LA and has yet to be released but in the meantime - check out this unofficial video.

Dolores O'Riordan - The Journey"The Journey" is the first single off of the new Dolores O'Riordan album, No Baggage, released on August 24th globally and August 25th in the U.S. Released to U.S. radio on July 13th, the single is expected to be released in Europe on August 10th. I've always loved O'Riordan's vocals - ever since she was a member of The Cranberries. The Morgan Page remix of "Ordinary Day," from O'Riordan's debut solo album is hot so I'm hoping for some new remixes from this album. We shall see I guess. The artwork has O'Riordan looking VERY pop. I love it! What do you think?
The Dolly Rockers - Gold DiggerVoted for by the fans, this is the official artwork for "Gold Digger" by The Dolly Rockers. Due out on August 30th, this group is already one of my summer favorites. I've watched the video probably 1000 times and love the Bimbo Jones remix. First single "Je Suis Une Dolly" is also one of my favorite songs of the summer. The girls are recording their debut album, due out at the end of the year.

Daniel Merriweather - ImpossibleThis is the third single from the new Daniel Merriweather CD, Love & War. "Impossible," due to be released on August 17th is the follow up to his last single "Red." Daniel is looking better than ever here...well...maybe not as hot as he did on the cover for "Red," but still...who am I to complain? I'm still hoping he takes a stab at the U.S. market with this new album. I'd love to see him do a live club show here.

Some music purchased recently...
