[Hot Video Alert] Shakira - Addicted To You

Shakira Addicted To You

While the world eagerly awaits Colombian hip-shaker Shakira's highly anticipated eighth studio album, we have one final single off her last album, Sale el Sol, to enjoy.  "Addicted To You" is the fifth and final single taken from Shakira's third bilingual album, released all the way back in October 2010.  Released as a single on March 13th, the song was written and produced by Shakira alongside Luis Fernando Ochoa, El Cata and John Hill.

Hot Video Alert: Rye Rye - Boom Boom

Rye Rye Boom Boom

I am LOVING Rye Rye right about now. She's a little spitfire isn't she?  21 year old Rye Rye first caught my attention with her single, "Never Will Be Mine", featuring Swedish electropop Goddess Robyn.  "Never Will Be Mine," released nearly a year ago, served as Rye Rye's second official single from her forthcoming album, Go! Pop! Bang!, which is due out May 15th via controversial artist M.I.A.'s own Interscope Records imprint, N.E.E.T.  Rye Rye's latest offering is a feisty little ditty called "Boom Boom," which heavily samples the Vengaboys' 1998 international hit "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom" in the chorus.  Clever Rye Rye. Very clever.

Hot Video Alert: Jada - This Party's On Fire

Boston-based dance/pop group Jada (AKA Lauren, Jacyn, Elle & April) are BACK with a fiery new dance/pop single and I couldn't be more happy about it.  Released digitally back in September via Code 11 Records, "This Party's On Fire" is the first single since 2009's "Break Up Song" which marked the band's second major label single release.  Jada's  major label debut single came back in March of 2009 with the Akon & RedOne-produced "American Cowboy," which was prominently featured in a party scene on the TV show House.  "This Party's On Fire," while not nearly as catchy as their debut, is still a flashy little number that deserves some club attention.  Now...if only some clubs would give it to them...

Produced by RIO, the song seems to have all of the necessary components it needs to be a hit.  Soulful vocals, plenty of "synth, strobe, bass and electric house beats."  So why hasn't it taken off?  Let's be honest...I don't know if America is ready for a serious girl group.  It used to be a marketable genre of pop music but in recent years, girl groups in America have just crashed and burned.  Did anyone catch Jada auditioning for the 'Groups Category' on the U.S. X-Factor? They barely received 10 seconds of screen time before Nicole Scherzinger shot down their hopes and dreams, and not that it would have mattered anyway! All of Paula's groups were decimated in record time.  Nope. America is not ready for another girl group. Not yet anyway.

Perhaps Jada needs to try their luck over in the UK where budding girl group Little Mix just propelled themselves into the X-Factor 2011 finals, becoming the first girl group to land in the finals in the shows entire history! Pretty epic!  As with most pop music trends, the U.S. has a bit of catching up to do.  Despite finding mainstream success elusive, the girls have no plans to quit in the near future.  Despite not having a major record deal anymore (or do they? They still have a page up on Universal Motown yet they released their new single on Code 11 Records),  the girls have been staying busy with performances and promotional appearances in and around the East Coast.  Included amongst the appearances, a live concert honoring the 10th anniversary for America's Camp (a one week camp for children who lost a parent or sibling on September 11th) and a performance on the finale of BRAVO's Real Housewives of Atlanta.  The girls have also been working on new tunes, collaborating with producers like Midi Mafia, DJ and producer Joe Bermudez and more. Can't wait to hear more from these girls in the near future.

In the meantime, check out the new(ish) video for Jada's new single, "This Party's On Fire." The video was filmed in and around Boston (including a couple of spots I walk by on the daily!) and featured 200+ extras, including the Norwood, MA High School Marching Band and Color Guard, two cheer leading teams and more.  Directed by Vassili Shields, the video feels a bit homemade compared to their major-label backed "American Cowboy" video (watch HERE) but it's still a pretty slick, solid effort.  The video was selected by back in October to be on Fuse TV's 'Fuse On Demand' channel for two months. Download "This Party's On Fire" on U.S. iTunes HERE.

Hot Video Alert: Kat DeLuna feat. Akon - Push Push

Loving the new Kat DeLuna video! Just over 2 months after the release of her single, the video for "Push Push" featuring Akon finally sees the light of day. DeLuna looks gorgeous, donning a series of sexy costumes (including one jewel-laden bathing suit that recalls Britney Spears' naked body in the "Toxic" video) and Akon wearing a simple light gray suit with a white T-shirt. The video doesn't tell a story or anything but it showcases DeLuna's sex appeal PERFECTLY.  The single is the first OFFICIAL single off of DeLuna's second album, Inside Out and was produced by RADIO and David Guetta. The album is expected later this year.

David Guetta Takes "One Love" On The Road

To help promote his latest album, One Love, French DJ David Guetta is amping up for the most extensive U.S. tour of his entire career. This is exciting news for dance/pop/R&B and hip-hop fans alike, as his latest album features collaborations with some of of today's greatest international music talent including Kelly Rowland, Akon, Chris Willis, Kid Cudi, Estelle, Ne-Yo, will.i.am and more.

David Guetta Guetta's just announced tour dates all over the U.S., kicking things off November 18th at Opera in Atlanta. The album, a follow up to 2007's Pop Life hit #1 in Europe and entered the U.S. iTunes album chart at #12. Not too bad for a French DJ, eh? Guetta has hit the mainstream music scene by force in 2009, producing the Black Eyed Peas' hit single "I Gotta Feeling," as well as global dance anthem "When Love Takes Over," featuring vocals by Destiny's Child's own Kelly Rowland. In addition to promoting a brand new album, Guetta has been named ambassador and spokes-DJ for DJ Hero, the latest game from the makers of Guitar Hero. HOT!

David Guetta"I can't wait to tour in America," Guetta said. "There's a real dance culture happening in America right now that I find very exciting." While the album peaked at 76 here in the U.S., it's reached Platinum in France and Gold in Canada, South Africa and Belgium. In America, "When Love Takes Over" hit number one on the Billboard Hot Dance & Club Play Chart and second single, "Sexy Bitch" featuring Akon is quickly climbing the dance charts.

David GuettaGuetta is preparing to film the video for the album's title track, which will serve as the third single, and features vocals from Brit R&B superstar Estelle. Lots happening in the world of Guetta and I for one am PUMPED about it. He's a true talent and I'm glad he's finally getting his North American spotlight. I've been enjoying his remixes and original material for quite some time now.

Beyond Bleeding?

Today's question...can Leona Lewis have a proper second single in the U.S.? My vote is...ABSOLUTELY! If her record label throws as much into it's promotion as they did with "Bleeding Love." Upon hearing the song by itself, I honestly never would have guessed that a beautiful, heart-achy love ballad would ever top the Billboard Charts. In recent years, the U.S. charts haven't really embraced pop music. U.S. radio is very urban-oriented these days. Had "Bleeding Love" been given some sort of an R&B remix--then yeah, with some good promotion, I could have predicted that the single would do alright. But #1 on it's own with no urban twist? Outstanding! You can tell how much Clive Davis, Simon Cowell, and the label believe in Leona as a star. It sort of makes you wonder why labels don't invest more into other fantastic artists (AHEM--P!NK!) who put out fantastic albums. $$$$$$$ would be the reason.

Now back to the topic at hand. Can Leona have another proper hit single in the U.S.? Right now, the label is being smart and letting the success of "Bleeding Love" (still doing well on the charts) wane before pushing a new single onto the American airwaves. The label is also being smart and not releasing another chintzy ballad as a second single. "Better In Time," definitely a beautiful song, and probably a good third single, is not the right choice for a second single here in the U.S., in my opinion. While it made it to #2 on the UK charts, I don't think it would do very well in the U.S. We need to hear what else Leona can do. Time for the urban-infused pop jam, and if rumors are to be believed, Akon-penned jam "Forgive Me" is the second U.S. single. Also produced by Akon, this track is a hot one. It has a very old-school Mariah vibe going on and it's up-tempo and lots of fun!

With no release date set yet for second single, hopefully the label will continue to ride out the success of "Bleeding Love" and release the new single once all the excitement has subsided. Leona is a deserved star and I hope only the best for her.
