[Hot Video Alert] Kelly Rowland feat. Lil' Wayne - Ice

In case you guys missed it, Kelly Rowland (of Destiny's Child fame) released a new video today and it's a SCORCHER!  While part most of me prefers the David Guetta-fied Kelendria Rowland that brought us club BANGERS, such as "Commander" and "When Love Takes Over," there's another part of me that loves her when she's in her wheelhouse singin' some straight up R&B.  "Ice," released this past August, is definitely in Rowland's wheelhouse.

[Hot Video Alert] Jessie J. featuring David Guetta - LaserLight

Jessie J. premiered the video for the David Guetta-assisted "LaserLight" April 10th.  Featured on the Platinum Edition of her debut album, Who You Are, "LaserLight" will be Jessie J's final single off the album.  The stunning electro-house ballad was co-written by Jessie, The Invisible Men and David Guetta.  

While it's not due to be released as a single until May 13th, the single has already managed to climb to the impressive #5 spot on this weeks UK Singles Chart.  As if hitting #5 isn't impressive enough, Jessie J has broken UK Chart records as the first UK female to have six top 10 hits from one album.  How amazing is that? Jessie joins the ranks of Take That, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Michael Jackson, all of whom who's landed the same feat.  Girl has a lot to be proud of.

Jessie J to Release David Guetta Collaboration, 'LaserLight' May 13th

On May 13th British singer/songwriter Jessie J will release "LaserLight," a collaboration with French DJ/Producer David Guetta as the seventh single off her triple-platinum selling debut album, Who You Are.  The song, which was written by Jessie J herself along with The Invisible Men, Giorgio Tuinfort, Frederick Riesterer and Guetta, appears on the special Platinum Edition of Who You Are, which was released November 14th in her native UK.  

While nothing new or groundbreaking, "LaserLight" certainly isn't a toss away track.  After having worked with Jessie J previously on a track ("Repeat") included on his last album, Guetta returns the favor here on "LaserLight."  Taking full advantage of David Guetta's mass popularity and penchant for creating dance divas out of traditional pop stars, this collaboration totally makes sense to me.  "LaserLight" is a club-friendly banger that works with Jessie J's powerhouse vocals soaring over Guetta's generous electro-house beats.  It's basically "When Love Takes Over" featuring Jessie J, and that's not a dis by any stretch of the imagination.  A video for the single has reportedly been filmed and is expected out soon.

Hot Video Alert: Usher - Climax

"Climax" is the "genre-defying" lead single off of R&B singer/songwriter Usher's forthcoming seventh studio album, Looking For Myself, due out on RCA Records June 12th.  The banger was written by Usher along with co-writers Redd Stylez, Ariel Rechtshaid and Diplo, who also serve as producers on the track.  There's nothing I don't love about this song. Dark, gritty electro beats coupled with that trademark falsetto - this is truly Usher at his very best.

As if the song wasn't hot and sweaty enough, wait until you see the "Climax" video, which premiered on VEVO March 9th as part of the music video site's platform revamp.  Directed by Sam Pilling and shot in Atlanta, the hazy camera effects complement Diplo's stunning production work exceptionally.  Pitchfork nails exactly what I love about Diplo's work here, praising the producer/songwriter for showing "uncharacteristic subtlety behind Usher's sentiment, with a beat that seems to hang suspended in midair." Bang on!  The Los Angeles Times also gets the overall feel of the song, describing "Climax" as "rooted in pure soul, with Diplo employing sexy synths behind a dripping downbeat." The video's choppy cinematography might normally have given me a headache, but it just works here.  I couldn't have conceptualized a better video.  The only downside is Usher's scruffy, unkempt appearance, but what are you gonna do?  Usher at his most down-trodden looks better than most guys at their best.

Estonian Club Queen Kerli Releases Sexy New Single and Video

While Estonia is probably the LAST place you'd expect an international club queen to hail from, 25 year old Kerli has been paving the way for her fellow Estonians since 2008 when she released her debut single, "Walking On Air," followed by her debut album, Love Is Dead.  Of course, until fairly recently, Americans have been a bit slow to catch on when it comes to hot dance club tunes from Europe so Kerli didn't really ARRIVE here on the club scene until 2010 when the insanely infectious dance smash "Army Of Love" hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Club chart. Nearly two years later, Kerli is ready to take back the crown, releasing a new dance-tinged futuristic club jam called "Zero Gravity," which is available to download now on iTunes (HERE).

"Zero Gravity" offers fans a first glimpse of what's to come from her long awaited sophomore album, due out later this year on Island Records.  While the song is certainly catchy, I'm a bit disappointed how dangerously David Guetta the production sounds.  It's a bit cookie cutter if you ask me.  What I liked about Kerli's earlier music is the trippy, almost otherworldly nature it has.  This sounds a bit too generic for my liking, but perhaps it will grow on me.  According to the PR, the timing of the single's release is perfect.

"The release of “Zero Gravity” coincides with the 2012 Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach, March 16-25th, which is highlighted by the 27th annual IDMAs (International Dance Music Awards). Kerli will be on hand for a number of IDMA events and promotions, culminating with her red carpet appearance on the day of the awards – Thursday, March 22nd – where she is also expected to present an IDMA."

Hot Video Alert: Jessie J - Domino

"Domino" is the latest single by international pop star Jessie J and it's a hot one.  Originally released as the first (and as of yet, only) single off of the re-release of her debut album, Who You Are, "Domino" was co-penned by Jessie alongside Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly, Max Martin and Henry Walter, with production brought to you by Dr. Luke and Cirkut.  With a team like that behind you, how can you not have a hit?  What "Domino" lacks in originality, it more than makes up for in fun factor.  The song is a just what we needed after hearing her depression-inducing yet emotionally stirring last UK single "Who You Are." "Domino" is bubblegum pop at it's finest.  Another thing I like about the song is how well it showcases Jessie J's vocal range.  It's easy for a a voice to get lost in the production of a song, especially an up-tempo dance/pop number like this one.  On  "Domino," Jessie J comes out the gate, chirping her way to Mariah Carey-like vocal heights.  While there are most definitely some vocal effects in play here, there's no doubt in my mind that Jessie J can hit those high notes live.  Despite what haters might say, the girl has talent for miles, and she's only 23!

While "Domino" actually came out back in August (before the November release of "Who You Are") the colorful, sexy and carefree Ray Kay-directed video (see below) only just premiered yesterday so I'm taking some liberties by calling it her "latest" single.  As far as I'm concerned, a video is a pretty major promotional tool and if it's being released now, the label (Island/Lava) still must have plans for"Domino."  Over here in the U.S., Jessie J has been taking baby steps with regards to an American career.  Officially, "Domino" is only her second single here in the States, serving as a follow up to the B.o.B.-assisted "Price Tag" which managed to peak at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last winter.  While not as successful as it's U.S. predecessor, "Domino" still managed to chart at a respectable #28 on the Hot 100 Chart, not to mention #16 on the Billboard U.S. Pop Songs chart and #39 on the U.S. Adult Pop Songs chart.  While not officially released as a single in her native England, "Domino" peaked at #54 on the Official UK Singles Chart.  Not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.  Check out some sick "Domino" remixes, done up by none other than the Jump Smokers and Hype Jones. Hot indeed.

Since making her debut in the UK with the hit single "Do It Like A Dude" back in 2010, Jessie J has been making waves.  The openly bisexual singer is a BRIT Award-winner and has been announced as one of the judges slash mentors on the UK version of the hit U.S. music reality show The Voice which is set to premiere on BBC One sometime in 2012 where she'll be joined by Tom Jones and The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue and will.i.am. Jessie's first taste at U.S. success came with the release of Miley Cyrus' "Party In The U.S.A," a song which Jessie J co-wrote with Dr. Luke and Claude Kelly (two of her collaborators on "Domino").  Her debut album, Who You Are, peaked at #2 on the UK charts when it was released last February and to date has spawned four top 10 UK singles ("Do It Like A Dude," "Price Tag," "Nobody's Perfect" and "Who You Are").  While she's certainly had more success in her native UK, Jessie J is just picking up momentum her in the U.S. and it's only a matter of time before she explodes.

Jessie J's U.S. profile received a nice, healthy boost when she earned herself a prestigious 'musical guest' spot on Saturday Night Live back in March and played 'House Band' on the MTV VMA's.  Jessie J. was all set to open for Katy Perry's California Dreams Tour, but was replaced by Music Is My King Size Bed-favorite Ellie Goulding after a foot injury put her out of commission.  No matter.  When Who You Are finally came out here in November, it debuted at an impressive #11.  Well done Ms. J. Well done.  While I'd love to see Jessie release some of her other UK singles Stateside, I think it's a smart move on her label's part to release new material here.  Speaking of new material, Jessie J's rumored third U.S. single is none other than "LaserLight," a David Guetta-produced/Invisible Men-co-penned track that appears on the album's re-release.  As much as it pains me to see her hooking up with David Guetta, he does know a thing or two about making a hit record. Look for a video for "LaserLight" sometime in 2012. Right now,  you can download "Domino" on U.S. iTunes HERE and watch Jessie J perform on 'NBC's New Years Eve with Carson Daly' where she'll be joined by U.S. Voice judges Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo Green, Drake, Tony Bennett and many more.

Hot Video Alert: David Guetta feat. Rihanna - Who's That Chick?

Check out the newly released video for David Guetta's Rihanna collaboration, "Who's That Chick." This is actually the third video shot for the song, the first was used to promote Doritos' global music event 'Late Night.' The most recent video, directed by Jonas Åkerlund (who's currently working on the new HIAM video for Britney Spears), the cartoonishly colorful video features David Guetta DJing on a space ship while Rihanna dances on a funky, space disco somewhere amongst the stars. While the portion of the video featuring Guetta is new, the footage of Rihanna comes from the original Doritos' footage.

"Who's That Chick" was originally released on November 22nd. It peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at #51 and at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The song is currently at #37 on the Top 40 airplay charts and climbing fast. "Who's That Chick" fared better in the UK where it managed to peak at #6 on the UK Singles chart and went all the way to the top of the UK Dance chart. "Who's That Chick" is the latest single from Guetta, who's 2009 album, One Love spawned such hits as "When Love Takes Over," "Sexy Bitch," "Gettin' Over You" and "Memories." A re-issue of the album, One More Love is available now featuring 8 of Guetta's biggest hits including "Who's That Chick." What's more, Guetta has paired up with YouTube lip-syncing sensation Keenan Cahill on a video megamix. Check that out HERE.

David Guetta will be attending the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards on February 13th to see if he wins 'Best Remixed Recording' for his mix of Madonna's "Revolver." Winning this year would make Guetta a 2-time Grammy winner, following last years win in the same category. Currnently, Guetta is hard at work on his next record, due out sometime in 2011. Expect him to preview some new tunes when he appears at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami on March 27th.

Hot Video Alert: Kelly Rowland and David Guetta - Commander

Finally! The official version of the new Kelly Rowland "Commander" (produced by David Guetta) video is here and it's HOT. While the song had been doing OK overseas, it has yet to really impact the charts here in America. In the U.S. the song peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play chart, while in the UK the tune rose from #52 to #17 on the singles chart. Not too shabby Ms. Rowland! A rough cut of the video leaked a few weeks back, but the quality was pretty poor so it's nice to see it all polished and clean. I love this song. While rumors of a Nelly remix of "Commander" have yet to become a reality, Rowland will be releasing two non-dance singles here in the U.S. - the Stargate-produced/Ne-Yo-penned "Grown Woman" and "Rose Colored Glasses," which was produced by Dr. Luke. I'll take all the Kelly Rowland I can get my hands on so keep churning out those singles, girl.

Hot Video Alert: Kat DeLuna feat. Akon - Push Push

Loving the new Kat DeLuna video! Just over 2 months after the release of her single, the video for "Push Push" featuring Akon finally sees the light of day. DeLuna looks gorgeous, donning a series of sexy costumes (including one jewel-laden bathing suit that recalls Britney Spears' naked body in the "Toxic" video) and Akon wearing a simple light gray suit with a white T-shirt. The video doesn't tell a story or anything but it showcases DeLuna's sex appeal PERFECTLY.  The single is the first OFFICIAL single off of DeLuna's second album, Inside Out and was produced by RADIO and David Guetta. The album is expected later this year.

EEP! I was on a roll with the blogging when I had a WINE CATASTROPHE knocking a glass of red wine across my desk, splattering my wall, Roman Blinds, Floor and Area Rugs. I guess I was just excited about this music video for David Guetta's new single, "Gettin' Over You" featuring the vocals of Chris Willis, The Black Eyed Peas' Fergie and LMFAO. I'm a bit behind on this release as well but no matter...it's still HOT.

I LOVE Kelis. The video for her new David Guetta-produced single "Acapella" officially premiered on Monday and it's a stunner. I LOVE all of the tribal influences and Kelis looks absolutely fabulous throughout.

"Acapella" is the first single off of Kelis' forthcoming 5th studio album (her first with Interscope Records). Flesh Tone is due out May 17th in the UK and sometime in June in the U.S. The single was co-written by Kelis, Makeba Riddick and Jean Baptiste and features remixes by Dave Audé, David Guetta and Bimbo Jones. It's available on iTunes now in the U.S. and will be released April 26th in the UK. For Flesh Tone, in addition to David Guetta, Kelis roped in talent like Benny Benassi, Diplo, Boyz Noize, Switch and will.i.am. Now THAT's a solid club record right there. Lookout for Kelis performing "Acapella" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on April 6th.

I have high hopes for this single and album. I've been following Kelis since her Kaleidoscope days and really think she's a force to be reckoned with in the industry. I really thought she shined on the Richard X collaboration "Finest Dreams" and other such dabs in electronic music. While I definitely appreciated her R&B/Hip-Hop leanings, that's not where I normally gravitate (although Tasty is undoubtedly one of her best albums to date).

Flesh Tone seems like the logical NEXT STEP after Kelis Was Here failed to impact the charts (aside from "Bossy" which managed to crack the Top 20 on Billboard's Hot 100). While she achieved a little more success in Europe, electro is where it's at these days - especially if you've got David Guetta guiding you along the path. After topping the Billboard Dance Club charts with "Acapella," it looks like she made the right call! While I would love to see the single do well in other U.S. radio formats, I'm not certain it will. it'll do really well overseas but I'm still holding out hope for U.S. success. We are in the era of Lady Gaga so anything is possible.

In My Stocking...

Let the post holiday spending begin! Last week I got myself a pair of the BOSE ear buds. So far so good. The sound quality is excellent and they are very comfortable. I think they are quieter than my iPod ear buds which is also a plus. I don't want anyone to tell me to turn my music down AND there's nothing I dislike more than hearing someone elses music on the train or bus.

In addition, I did a little shopping on CDWow.com. They were having a post-holiday 40% - 80% off sale for CDs, DVDs and other things, running till New Years Eve. With their free shipping and large selection of imports, I thought I'd stock up. Here's the rundown on what I got:

CHERYL COLE - 3 WORDS

I've been listening to Cheryl Cole's album non-stop since it leaked. It's really a quality pop album, if you ask me. While there is a little bit too much of will.I.Am for my liking, the tracks are all solid. I'm absolutely loving the second single, "3 Words," featuring Mr. will.I.Am. The video for that single is absolutely stunning. I also dig the forthcoming 3rd single which has been announced as "Parachute." ALICIA KEYS - ELEMENT OF FREEDOM

I haven't purchased an Alicia Keys album since her debut. I'm honestly not too sure why I purchased this, her fourth album. Keys is undoubtedly talented but lately her genre of music as a whole just hasn't impressed me that much. I think that given my state of mind of late, more mellow sounds are calming and relaxing to me, rather than the driving dance/electro beats that I've craved up until now. I'm always on the lookout for that next emotional ballad to unlock the waterworks in my eyes. With Keys' knack for writing emotive and passionate songs, combined with her crazy piano and vocal skills - it's pretty safe to assume that there are some cry-worthy songs on this album. Hot Tracks: "Doesn't Mean Anything," "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart," "Wait Til You See Me Smile," "Love Is My Disease," "Put It In A Love Song," "Through It All," "Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down," "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)"

LEONA LEWIS - ECHO

Leona Lewis' second album has been growing on me in the months since my initial review. The more I listen to Echo, the more easily I am able to connect to it. My initial complaint was that there weren't enough up-tempo numbers, with Lewis instead resorting to her standard brand of "boring" ballads. Perhaps that was unfair. There's definitely a place for big ballads. Not every artist needs to sing up-tempo Gaga-esque dance tracks. At this time in my life, I need all of the big, beautiful sad ballads I can get my hands on. I guess you can say that this purchase was an emotional one. Leona releases "I Got You" next in the States and rumor has it that "Outta My Head" will serve as the next international single. Both are stand outs in my opinion. Hot Tracks: "I Got You," "Love Letter," "Fly Here Now," "Brave," "Alive," "Outta My Head," "Broken"

WILL YOUNG - THE HITS

Will Young is one of my biggest celebrity crushes. The handsome singer/actor has struck me ever since I first heard of him back when his career was just taking off in the UK. Not only is Young a talented singer, but he's also a role model, coming out as a gay man. He also had brilliant role in Mrs. Henderson Presents..., a beautiful little British film. It's hard to believe that this young talent (only 30 years old) has had four albums out since winning Pop Idol back in 2002. His greatest hits album (titled The Hits) features 12 songs taken from his first four albums, plus two new tracks - single "Hopes & Fears," and "If It Hadn't Been For Love." Young has a reportedly brilliant collaboration with Groove Armada and is rumored to be working on a more dance/electro album for his next project. Well...we know how well that turned out for Robbie Williams (see Rudebox) but I love Will and think a dance album will really suit his voice. Hot Tracks: "Leave Right Now," "Your Game," "Friday's Child," "Switch It On," "All Time Love," "Who Am I," "Changes," "Hopes & Fears"

ALEXANDRA BURKE - OVERCOME

I think Alexandra Burke's debut album was what I was looking for in Leona Lewis' second album. There are ballads but there are also plenty of up-tempo club friendly tracks. That being said, I think there's room for both artists. As I mentioned above, I've really become attached to Leona's Echo. Alexandra's album is definitely suited for the U.S. Top 40 market and may even get some play on U.S. R&B radio stations. Leona's album is definitely more suited for adult contemporary radio stations, though it seems to be getting some play on mainstream radio as well. Regardless, I have space on my iPod for both X-Factor winners. They both do their own thing and do it well. Burke will reportedly be re-tooling her debut album for U.S. markets, but will be releasing the same videos that have already seen a UK release. U.S. audiences can expect Burke's new album to drop sometime in 2010. Hot Tracks: "Bad Boys," "Broken Heels," "Nothing But The Girl," "You Broke My Heart," "Overcome," "It's Over"

DJ/Producer David Guetta Racks Up 5 Grammy Nominations

Major congratulations go out to superstar French DJ/Producer David Guetta, who received five Grammy Nominations this year. Very impressive! As if the honor of actually receiving five nods wasn't enough, Guetta had the pleasure of playing during the live nominations telecast in Los Angeles. This is Guetta's first time being nominated so to pick up five in one go is nothing to shake a fist at.

Guetta is nominated in the Album of the Year & Record of the Year categories as as producer of the Black Eyed Peas hit single "I Gotta Feeling." Guetta's album One Love was nominated for three awards, including Best Dance/Electronic Album (along with previously mentioned Pet Shop Boys, whose album "Yes" was nominated in the same category). Guetta's Kelly Rowland collaboration, "When Love Takes Over" was also nominated for Best Remixed Recording. As if this Grammy news wasn't enough, "Sexy Bitch," featuring Akon went platinum in the U.S. with over 1 million downloads. That's huge! Guetta is thrilled at the nominations, saying

"It's fantastic that the Academy have recognized the impact dance music has had in America this year. My mission was for this music to be heard by and touch millions. By bringing together the best urban artists and electronic music, I feel the barriers are coming down and we are together."

Guetta also recently collaborated with global superstar Madonna on a remix of "Revolver," a new song off of her greatest hits compilation Celebration, out now. Guetta's current third single and the album's title track, features a guest vocal by UK R&B artist Estelle. The single is currently climbing the European charts and impacting dance floors all over the world, featuring an impressive remix package with mixes by Calvin Harris and DJ Chuckie. Guetta, who just finished up his biggest U.S. tour, will be back in LA on December 31st to celebrate New Years Eve, followed by an appearance at the Grammy Awards on January 31st. It's looking like 2009 and 2010 are both going to be huge for Guetta. Here's hoping there's lots more to come!

David Guetta Takes "One Love" On The Road

To help promote his latest album, One Love, French DJ David Guetta is amping up for the most extensive U.S. tour of his entire career. This is exciting news for dance/pop/R&B and hip-hop fans alike, as his latest album features collaborations with some of of today's greatest international music talent including Kelly Rowland, Akon, Chris Willis, Kid Cudi, Estelle, Ne-Yo, will.i.am and more.

Guetta's just announced tour dates all over the U.S., kicking things off November 18th at Opera in Atlanta. The album, a follow up to 2007's Pop Life hit #1 in Europe and entered the U.S. iTunes album chart at #12. Not too bad for a French DJ, eh? Guetta has hit the mainstream music scene by force in 2009, producing the Black Eyed Peas' hit single "I Gotta Feeling," as well as global dance anthem "When Love Takes Over," featuring vocals by Destiny's Child's own Kelly Rowland. In addition to promoting a brand new album, Guetta has been named ambassador and spokes-DJ for DJ Hero, the latest game from the makers of Guitar Hero. HOT!

"I can't wait to tour in America," Guetta said. "There's a real dance culture happening in America right now that I find very exciting." While the album peaked at 76 here in the U.S., it's reached Platinum in France and Gold in Canada, South Africa and Belgium. In America, "When Love Takes Over" hit number one on the Billboard Hot Dance & Club Play Chart and second single, "Sexy Bitch" featuring Akon is quickly climbing the dance charts.

Guetta is preparing to film the video for the album's title track, which will serve as the third single, and features vocals from Brit R&B superstar Estelle. Lots happening in the world of Guetta and I for one am PUMPED about it. He's a true talent and I'm glad he's finally getting his North American spotlight. I've been enjoying his remixes and original material for quite some time now.
